The WPL 2024 Auction successfully concluded on 9th December 2023 at 6:30 pm IST. The auction started at 3 pm and a three-and-half-hour event witnessed a sale of nearly 30 players. Of these, 5 expensive players of the WPL 2024 Auction created a sensation.

The forthcoming edition of the Women’s Premier League WPL will be played in T20 format with 22 matches, including the playoffs. Moreover, the matches will be played in a double-round-robin format.

Furthermore, BCCI secretary Jay Shah after the WPL Auction 2024 mentioned that the tournament will likely commence on 22nd February 2024 and conclude on 17th March 2024. Also, the BCCI secretary clarified that all the matches will be held in one state.

1. Annabel Sutherland (AUSTRALIA ): INR 2 Crores to Delhi Capitals

The 22-year-old Australian cricketer was acquired at a base price of INR 70 lakhs during the WPL 2023 Auction. Annabel Sutherland was a part of Gujarat Giants in the inaugural WPL season in 2023.

Annabel has an impressive record in T20Is by grabbing 10 wickets in 19 innings. Also, the Australian player accumulated 97 runs in 10 T20I innings with her highest score of 22 runs.

Moreover, her contribution to the WBBL (Women’s Big Bash League) as part of the Melbourne Stars, increases her demand for the WPL.

Vrinda Dinesh is known for her power-hitting strokes and consistent performance in domestic matches.

However, the Mumbai Indians secured the 35-year-old medium-fast bowler for a large sum of money with INR 1.2 crores.

Shabnim Ismail played a crucial role in the WBBL ( Women’s Big Bash League). She grabbed 14 wickets in 13 matches with an impressive economy rate of 6.23.

Particularly with a new ball, Ismail makes it difficult for the opponent team batsmen to combat her bowling attack.

5. Phoebe Litchfield ( AUSTRALIA): INR 1 Crore to Gujarat Giants

Gujarat Giants acquired the 20-year-old Australian batter for INR 1 crore. Her explosive batting style makes her collaborate with the other expensive players of the WPL auction 2024.

Phoebe Litchfield, earlier this year, made her debut in the international cricket. A promising start by the young cricketer ensures a long journey loaded with exciting records in the forthcoming matches of her career.

Interestingly, Phoebe Litchfield tallied Sophie Devine’s record of the fastest half-century in Women’s T20Is against West Indies. By scoring a half-century in just 18 balls, the left-handed batter was able to achieve the remarkable feat in October 2023.

Being a regular participant in WBBL ( Women’s Big Bash League), she represents the team, Sydney Thunders. In WBBL 2023, the Australian left-handed batter performed well by scoring an overall of 329 runs.
