India’s Bangladesh Tour 2026: Latest BCCI Update Revealed

India’s proposed tour of Bangladesh 2026 remains uncertain, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) waiting for formal clearance from the Indian government before making a final decision.

The two boards have continued discussions over the white-ball series, but the BCCI does not want to commit to the tour until it receives a clear signal from New Delhi. A BCCI source has indicated that talks are taking place with the Indian High Commission, while the final call will depend on the government’s assessment of the situation.

The uncertainty increases as the proposed six-match series gets closer. India and Bangladesh were originally scheduled to play the series in 2025, but it was postponed to September 2026.

India-Bangladesh series still waiting for clearance

The proposed tour is not a new addition to India’s schedule. The BCCI and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had mutually agreed in July 2025 to move the postponed series from August 2025 to September 2026.

The original plan included three ODIs and three T20Is. The BCB later worked on a September window for the six matches, with reports suggesting the series could be played in the first half of the month.

However, the key issue now is not the cricket schedule. It is government approval. A BCCI source told ANI that the board is awaiting formal approval from the Indian government. The source also indicated that discussions with the Indian High Commission are continuing and that the BCCI cannot independently take the final decision on the tour. That means the series cannot be treated as confirmed yet, even though planning has continued on the Bangladesh side.

Why is government approval important?

The situation goes beyond normal cricket scheduling. India-Bangladesh relations have been under pressure because of political developments and security concerns. Those tensions had already affected cricket between the two countries, with the postponed tour becoming one of the clearest examples.

The BCCI has therefore taken a cautious approach. Rather than announcing a final itinerary and then making changes later, the board wants government clearance before moving ahead.

The latest reports suggest that the cricket boards are still in contact and that there is no breakdown in communication between the BCCI and BCB. In fact, both sides have continued to work towards making the September window possible.

At the same time, political relations remain an important factor. Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman recently spoke about creating a more favourable environment for improving ties with India, showing that efforts to stabilise bilateral relations are continuing outside cricket as well.

What is the proposed schedule?

The BCB had earlier announced plans for a six-match white-ball series involving three ODIs and three T20Is. Reports have indicated that the ODI matches could be played in early September, followed by the T20Is later in the month. One reported itinerary had the ODIs on September 1, 3 and 6, with the T20Is scheduled for September 9, 12 and 13. However, these dates should not be considered final from India’s side until the necessary clearance is received.

This is why the next few days could be important. If the Indian government gives the green light, the BCCI and BCB can move towards confirming the schedule and completing the remaining arrangements. If approval is delayed, the series could face another change to its plans.

BCCI and BCB are still keeping the door open

There are signs that both cricket boards would like the tour to happen.

The BCB has already taken steps connected to the proposed series, including work related to broadcast rights and preparations for its 2026-27 home calendar. The board has also remained hopeful about hosting India.

For the BCCI, however, the priority is clear: government permission comes first. The board is also dealing with a packed international calendar. India are currently involved in their Test series in Sri Lanka, while a home ODI series against the West Indies is scheduled for late September and early October. So, any Bangladesh tour will have to fit carefully into an already busy schedule.

Will India travel to Bangladesh?

There is still no final confirmation that India will travel to Bangladesh. The positive sign is that discussions between the boards have not stopped, and the proposed September window remains on the table. But the deciding factor is the Indian government’s clearance.

For now, the safest answer is that India could still travel to Bangladesh, but the tour is not officially locked in yet. The BCCI is waiting for the government’s decision, while the BCB remains hopeful that the six-match series can go ahead. Until New Delhi gives the required approval, however, Indian fans will have to wait before the Bangladesh tour can be confirmed.
