Tamil Nadu has produced so many cricketing greats for Team India over the years. The players like R Ashwin, D Karthik, Murli Vijay, etc came from this side of the country. Now, the state has had its own T20 league called Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) for the last 7 years. It is a very good platform for the youngsters in Tamil Nadu. They get a lot of exposure playing in high-pressure games. Now, the 7th season of this league (TNPL 2023) will commence on June 12. Today, we will give you all the details about TNPL 2023 and other information about this league.
Starting date of TNPL 2023
The TNPL 2023 will commence on June 12 with Lyca Kovai Kings and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans locking horns in the first game. SRN College Cricket Ground, Coimbatore will be the venue for the first match.
Venues
The four venues are decided for the TNPL 2023. These are Tirunelveli, Salem, Dindigul, and Coimbatore.
MA Chidambaram Stadium will not host TNPL for the 2nd time as the floodlights of the ground will be undergoing renovations ahead of the marquee tournament ICC World Cup 2023.
How many teams will participate in this league?
8 teams will participate in TNPL 2023.
Ending and playoffs details
The Qualifier 2 and the final of the tournament will be played on July 10 and 12 respectively at Tirunelveli. Qualifier 1 and Eliminator will be played at Salem on July 7 and 8 respectively.
Impact player rule for the first time
After a successful implementation of an Impact player rule in IPL 2023, this rule will be used in TNPL 2023 as well.
DRS will also be introduced
Other than the impact player rule, DRS will also be used in TNPL 2023. This technology is being used for the first time in TNPL. But it will not be available for on-field calls on wides and no-balls.
Sai Sudharsan – the most expensive player in TNPL 2023
Sai Sudharsan bags INR 21.6 lakh in TNPL 2023 auction. He will play for Lyca Kovai Kings this year.
Sai was also a part of Gujarat Titans and came in as an impact player when Kane Williamson got injured in the first game against CSK. He has been a revelation and played some of the important knocks and cameos for GT in IPL 2023.
Sai also played an outstanding knock at the big stage of IPL 2023. He scored 96 off just 47 balls in the final against CSK. But unfortunately ended up on the losing side as CSK chased down a revised target of 171 in 15 overs.
Sai Sudharsan has scored 3 fifties for GT this year.

Ticket prices for the matches
The ticket price for all the matches will be Rs. 200 and the new hospitality tickets will cost Rs. 1500.
Women’s TNPL in talk
The organizers also confirmed that a Women’s TNPL is in the works and will likely debut in 2024. It will be a great platform for young women cricketers in Tamil Nadu.

The league started in 2016 and Tuti Patriots was the winner of the season. They defeated Chepauk Super Gillies in the final by 122 runs.
Most runs
N Jagadeesan has scored the highest number of runs in this league till now, with a total of 1240 runs. He is also with the KKR franchise in IPL 2023.
Most wickets
R Sai Kishore is the highest wicket-taker in this league till now. He has taken 85 wickets in TNPL till now.
Current champions
Chepauk Super Gillies and Lyca Kovai Kings were adjudged joint winners in TNPL 2022 as the final of the tournament was washed out due to rain.
Few youngsters might get the opportunity in IPL
A few IPL franchises also look at this league closely and try to get some young talent in their team. M Shahrukh Khan, a captain of Kovai Kings also said- ““The Punjab Kings manager had come up to me and told me that he and a few scouts from the team would be coming to look at the players. The scouting and the eye for talent are a lot around in India, and everybody is ready to look at someone very special and rope them into their side.”
