We are into the business end of TNPL 2023 and still there are three spots left for the top 4. Shahrukh Khan-led side Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) confirmed their TNPL 2023 playoffs with a win against Salem Spartans (SS). They are sitting comfortably at the top of the points table with 5 wins in 6 games. Today, we will see which other three teams will make it to the TNPL 2023 playoffs.
Four probable teams to reach the top 4 in TNPL 2023
(1) Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK)
Lyca Kovai Kings becomes the first team to reach the TNPL 2023 playoffs. After a 79 runs win against Salem Spartans, they confirmed their spot in the top 4. LKK started their TNPL 2023 campaign with a win against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans. They won the game convincingly by 70 runs.
The hard-fought game against Nellai Royal Kings (NRK)
LKK lost their only game in TNPL 2023 so far against NRK. They lost the game on the last ball as Guruswamy’s 112 helps the team to get over the line in a run chase. Before Guruswamy, Sai Sudharsan also played an outstanding knock of 90 in the first inning. But his inning went in vain.
LKK won the third game against CSG by 8 wickets while chasing a small total of 127. S Sudharsan continues his good form and scored 64 runs.
Against Ba11sy Trichy, they won the game by 6 wickets and 10 balls to spare. And then they come up against Dindigul Dragons. DD hasn’t lost any game in the tournament until they meet LKK. LKK breaks the winning run of DD and won the game by 59 runs.
LKK confirms TNPL 2023 playoffs after a win against Salem Spartans
In the 19th game of TNPL 2023, LKK locked horns against SS. They won the game quite convincingly by 79 runs after scoring 199 runs on the board. LKK bowlers restrict SS to just 120 and they become the first team to advance to TNPL 2023 playoffs.
S Sudharsan and Captain S Khan played a massive role in the team’s success. Both the players are the leading run-scorer and the leading wicket-taker respectively. Not just these two, but other players like V Yudheeswaran, S Sujay, Ram Arvindh, etc also helped the team to win games.
LKK’s last league stage game will be against Siechem Madurai Panthers on July 2 at Tirunelveli. They will look to finish in the top 2 so that even if they lost the first qualifier, they get another chance to reach TNPL 2023 final. CSG and LKK were declared as joint winners in TNPL 2022 after the final washed out due to rain. LKK would love to have a TNPL title without these circumstances.
(2) Nellai Royal Kings (NRK)
NRK is looking good to go into the TNPL 2023 playoffs. They are sitting at No. 2 in the points table with 4 wins in 5 games. Their only loss came against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans in the 3rd game. They won the first two games and the last two games of their league stages.
G Ajitesh is one of the batters from NRK who is sitting at No. 4 in the highest run scorers list. He has scored 188 runs in 4 games with an average of 62.67n and with an outstanding strike rate of 160.68.
M Poiyamozhi is the highest wicket-taker for NRK in TNPL 2023 so far. He has taken 8 wickets in 5 games with an average of 12.75. His economy also is on the lower side; being 6.38.
These two are one of the reasons for NRK’s success in TNPL 2023. NRK will most likely be one of the teams to be in the TNPL 2023 playoffs.
(3) Dindigul Dragons (DD)
R Ashwin-led side started their TNPL 2023 campaign with 3 wins in the first 3 games. They lost their first game of the tournament against NRK, but then again won the next game against Tiruppur. They are still looking for their first TNPL title. Although they reached the final two times in the history of TNPL, but couldn’t cross the line.
(4) Siechem Madurai Panthers (SMP)
Right now, Madurai is looking one of the last team to be in the TNPL 2023 playoffs. They are at No. 5 in the points table with 2 wins in 4 games.
Madurai’s competition will be with IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, who is at No. 6 with 2 wins in 5 games. The advantage for SMP is they played one game less than Tiruppur. Also, they are peaking at the right time. Madurai won their last two games after losing the first two.
Although CSG is at No. 4 in the points table, they already played 6 games and won only 2. And the chances for Salem Spartans and Trichy are also looking bleak. So Madurai will be our 4th team who will be in the TNPL 2023 playoffs.
