WIPL 2023: The success of the Indian Premier League is not a point of the question at all. This short-format cricket is extremely popular all over the world. Because everyone is expecting the same success from the women’s league too. In addition, it will definitely be the beginning of a new era for women’s cricket.

WIPL 2023: BCCI gets richer by Rs 4669 Crores

With a lot of interest from different big businesses in owning the team in the WIPL 2023, the total bid for all 5 WIPL teams is INR 4670 crores approximately. The successful bid for the final five teams is from Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, and Lucknow.

Among all, Adani Sportsline Pvt. Ltd. bid a maximum of INR 1289 crores. Following that is Rs. 919.99 crores of the bid from Mumbai is the second Highest. It came from Mumbai. In addition, INR 901 crores bid is from Bengaluru by Royal Challengers Sports Pvt. Ltd.

The fourth and fifth bid is from Delhi and Lucknow respectively. JSW GMR Cricket Pvt. Ltd. grabbed the franchise for Rs. 810 crores. And last, Capri Global Holdings Pvt. Ltd. from Lucknow now owns one of the WIPL 2023 teams for Rs. 757 crores.

The BCCI did receive seventeen technical bids for the same. Out of which ten were the new business entities trying to enter the cricket market. Such as the Adani group was not able to get a men’s IPL team. However, now he is definitely quite happy with the women’s IPL team.

Besides those, the remaining bids were from those franchises that already own an IPL team. But, only Royal Challengers Banglore, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians managed to do that.

What did the BCCI president say?

After the successful auction for the WIPL 2023 teams, the Board of control for cricket in India is extremely happy. With such huge bids, the finances for the tournament went up. The president of BCCI, Mr Roger Binny did give a public statement after finalizing the winning bids. He said,” I congratulate the winners for making successful bids to own WPL teams. The league will give players from India and abroad a chance to learn and grow together. It will pave the way for development at the grassroots level with the inclusion of more women cricketers. I would also like to congratulate the BCCI team for the smooth execution of the auction process. I’m confident that the league will help our women cricketers shine on the global stage.”

WIPL Players’ auction

As all teams are set now. Here is the focus on the auction for players. In fact, you can imagine the level of interest of players in this by knowing the fact that the BCCI did get around a thousand applications for registration from the players. With only five final teams and each team can have eighteen players with them. The total number of players to be sold in the auction is ninety. Therefore the BCCI will filter the final list before the auction. The WIPL 2023 players’ auction will take place on February 13, 2023.

As per the sources, the final list for the auction will be of 150 players. Moreover, the base price for capped players is Rs. 20 lakhs, Rs. 40 lakhs, and Rs. 50 lakhs. Whereas the same for uncapped players is Rs. 10 lakhs and Rs. 20 lakhs. Moreover, each team will get a budget of Rs. 12 crores to spend on bidding.

The venue for the auction is Mumbai. Though we do not have the official statement yet, one of the BCCI officials did say, “Auction will be held in Mumbai on 13th Feb. Franchises are comfortable with the date and location and it is easier for the BCCI as well to arrange for logistics in Mumbai. Official announcements will be made soon.”

Details about schedules

The matches of the league are going to take place from March 4 to March 26 this year. The elimination matches will be on March 24, 2023. The very first match of the tournament is between two of the major Business Tycoon teams. Yes, I am talking about Gautam Adani’s Gujrat and Mukesh Ambani’s Mumbai.

Though earlier there were three venues for the league. However, Wankhede stadium is out of the list now. So, WIPL is left with Barbourne stadium and DY Patil Stadium. And, both are in Mumbai itself. This is to get the team some rest as they will be returning from the T20 World CUP from South Africa.
