Yashasvi Jaiswal – Selling Panipuri To Breaking IPL Records To Team India selection

The BCCI has announced the Test and ODI squad for the West Indies series which will start from July 12 at Dominica. We will see some of the new faces in the test team when Team India takes on West Indies in the two-match series. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mukesh Kumar will be one of those new faces on the team. Today, we will talk about the journey of Jaiswal’s selection in the test team.

Jwala Singh, who ran a cricket academy in Santacruz found him and gave him an opportunity to showcase his talent. Yashasvi Jaiswal performed well in a local tournament called ‘Giles Shield’. He scored 319 runs and took 13 wickets as well in the tournament. The left-hander then went on to play the Mumbai U-16 and India U-19 later. Although India U-19 lost the final, Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes the player of the tournament for his 400 runs in the tournament.

His performances in professional cricket

Yashasvi becomes mature so early and started doing well in professional cricket. Recently, in IPL 2023, he becomes the 5th highest run scorer in the tournament with 625 runs in 14 games. His average was 48 and has an outstanding strike rate of 163.

Fastest fifty in the IPL

Yashasvi Jaiswal also becomes the fastest half-centurion in IPL history when he scored 50 off just 13 balls against KKR in a run chase. He even started his inning with 2 back to back sixes of the first two balls of the inning against N Rana.

Some former, as well as current cricketers, praised Yashasvi Jaiswal for their talent. The former Indian middle order batter Suresh Raina said he would have picked Yashasvi for ICC WC 2023.

“If I was the Indian selector, I would have signed him today itself for the World Cup because he is in a very fresh mind,” Raina said on JioCinema.

“He reminds me of Virender Sehwag. I’m sure Rohit Sharma will be watching this because he will be searching for batters like him for the World Cup,” Raina added.

Virat Kohli also posts a story on his Instagram account praising Yashasvi Jaiswal. After Yashasvi’s outstanding knock in IPL, Virat posted – “ Wow, this is some of the best batting I have seen in a while. What a talent. Yashasvi Jaiswal.”

Other players from the fraternity also praised Yashasvi.

Performances in Domestic Cricket

Not just in IPL and U-19, Yashasvi has done well in Vijay Hazare and Ranji Trophy. Jaiswal made a record by becoming the youngest double-hundred in List A cricket at the age of 17 years old, which was another impressive accomplishment in senior cricket. He played an outstanding 203 runs off 154 balls for Mumbai against Jharkhand in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy match.

Yashasvi also talked about his journey in a recent interview. He said-  “I faced difficulties there. No electricity, no restroom, no help. I had to manage everything on my own, even washing my clothes. I felt isolated, with no one to share my feelings. The gardeners treated me poorly, and others would even resort to violence. I was forced to cook for myself and often threatened with the denial of food. Amidst all this, I sold pani puris at night to earn some money. While I started finding joy in it, I also prayed for a better opportunity,” Jaiswal shared during an interview with Quint.
