After a successful inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023), the next edition of the WPL is set to take place in February. The BCCI also looking for a big window for the WPL, considering the suitable time slot and India’s international commitments. Also, the WPL 2024 will see a home-and-away format. Unlike WPL 2023, in which the tournament was held in Mumbai across two venues only.

Top 5 Highest Run Scorers in WPL 2023
(1) Meg Lanning
The Aussie batter was the leading run-scorer in WPL 2023 with 345 runs in 9 innings. Her average was 49.29 and a strike rate of 139.11. She was one of the reasons for Delhi Capitals Women’s outstanding campaign in WPL 2023. DC W reached the final of the tournament. Unfortunately, they couldn’t cross the line in the final as they lost the game against Mumbai Indians Women by 7 wickets.
Good start to Lanning’s WPL 2023
In the first game against RCB W, Meg Lanning scored 72 off just 43 balls with 14 fours which helps DC W to put in a huge total of 223 in the first inning. DC W restricts RCB W to just 163.
Lanning again scored 70 off 42 balls in the 2nd game against UP Warriorz. DC W again put a total of 200+ on the board. UP W only manage to score 169 on the board and dc w won the match by 42 runs.
Lone Warrior against MI W
In the third game against Mumbai Indians Women as well, only Lanning showed some fight as she scored 43 off 41 balls. DC W only manages to score 105 and got bowled out in just 18 overs.
Captain Lanning holds one end and scored 21 off 15 balls. Her partner Shafali Verma scored 76 off just 28 balls in a run chase of 106 against Gujarat Giants.
Rare failures for Lanning
A rare failure of Meg Lanning came against RCB W’s 2n encounter, where she only scored 15 runs. Although her team won the match quite convincingly.
Back-to-back two games, Lanning got out before 20. Gujarat Giants took their revenge from the last game and won by 11 runs.
DC W won their last two league stage match against MI W and UP W, and Lanning scored 32 and 39 respectively.
In the final, she scored 35 off 29 balls, but her team lost the match by 7 wickets. MI W chased down a target of 132 with 7 wickets and 3 balls to spare.
WPL 2023 Orange Cap Winner
Meg Lanning becomes the orange cap winner in WPL 2023. With her outstanding performances in WPL 2023, Delhi Capitals Women finished the WPL 2023 being the runner-up.
(2) Nat Sciver Brunt
MI W bowlers dominated the highest wicket-takers list, but Nat Sciver Brunt did the job with the bat for them. She scored 332 runs in 10 games with an average of 66.40 and a strike rate of 140 in WPL 2023. MI W had so much quality in both batting and bowling in WPL 2023.
(3) Tahila McGrath
She played for UP Warriorz and scored 302 runs in 8 innings of the 9 games she played in WPL 2023. Her average was 50.33 and has an astonishing strike rate of 158.
She played a huge role in the team’s success as her team finished at No. 3 in the points table in WPL 2023. UP Warriorz couldn’t make it to the final but they played very good cricket in the tournament.
(4) Harmanpreet Kaur
We saw Harmanpreet over the year and what she did for Team India. And she did the same for MI W in WPL 2023. She scored 281 runs in 10 games with an average of 40.14 and a strike rate of 135. Both the lists (highest run scorers and highest wicket-takers) are dominated by Mumbai Indians Women in WPL 2023.
(5) Hayley Matthews
Another MI W batter who is in the top 5 list of leading run scorers. Also, Hayley is the only player who is in the top 5 list of both the highest run scorers and highest wicket-takers.
She was the purple cap holder in WPL 2023. And she also scored 271 runs in 10 games with an average of 30 and a strike rate of 126. Her all-round performance gives a much-needed balance to the team.
