The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is just over a month away to start and the teams have started to announce their squads for the marquee tournament. Teams like Australia, South Africa, Afghanistan, and New Zealand have already announced their squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 (CT 2025). Now, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also announced its 15-member squad for CT 2025. The BCB has decided to go into the tournament without two of their experienced campaigners, Shakib al Hasan and Litton Das.

On January 12 (Sunday), the BCB has announced their squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. Earlier, it was the last date to announce the squad for all the teams. But, the ICC (International Cricket Council) has decided to extend it to January 18-19. The teams can announce their preliminary squad till 19, but they can change it and announce a main squad a week before the tournament starts.
New Zealand (NZ), Afghanistan (AFG), and Bangladesh (BAN) announced their squads on January 12. Before that, teams like Australia and South Africa also announced their squads for CT 2025.
Shakib al Hasan and Litton Das were excluded from the squad
The BCB has decided to go without Shakib al Hasan and Litton Das. Bangladesh cricket team will miss the experience of these two, but the board has some strong reasons to exclude them from the squad.
The ICC has banned Shakib al Hasan from bowling in international cricket due to an illegal bowling action. He was first reported for the action after playing a County game against Somerset. The selectors haven’t included him as a specialist batter in the team.
Litton Das, who hasn’t made a huge impact in the last 15 games or so has also been excluded from the Bangladesh cricket team for CT 2025.
Shakib failed an independent assessment of his bowling action
After the umpires reported Shakib’s bowling action after the county game, he went to Loughborough University for an independent assessment of his bowling action. It was found that his elbow extension is more than 15 degrees. The ICC has permitted a maximum of 15-degree elbow extension for a bowler.
Shakib al Hasan also failed the second test of his bowling action, which was held in December at the Sri Ramachandra Centre for Sports Science in Chennai.

Litton’s poor form costs him a place in CT 2025 squad
The BCB’s chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain said Litton Das hasn’t made a significant impact for Bangladesh in a while. He said Litton is getting out similarly. Litton has also failed to take advantage of powerplay and is unable to last at the crease.
“Opposition analysts are getting too successful against Litton. We gave him chances but there isn’t much trust left. We have considered Litton’s past performances, especially his recent efforts. It became hard to be confident about Litton when he couldn’t score in WI where the rest of the batters got us to big totals.” – Gazi Ashraf on Litton Das.
Ashraf also said the wickets in Rawalpindi are good batting wickets, and the team needs in-form top-order batters. He also gave an example of NZ losing the game in Pindi even after scoring 336.
Sarkar and Tanzim are likely to open the inning for Bangladesh. Ashraf said there was no doubt about Litton’s class, and he will be back. They have experts to work on his game.
