
The year 2024 has come to an end and it is a rollercoaster or a year of highs and lows of Indian cricket. Team India won the ICC T20 World Cup this year and ended the draught of winning an ICC trophy after 10 years. Other than the achievement, the team has also lost a home test series 3-0 for the first time in history. They are also behind in the BGT 2024-25 and lost an ODI series in Sri Lanka. The Indian cricket team fans have also seen some of their star Indian cricketers retiring from the game in 2024.
Here is the list of Indian cricketers who have retired and hung up their boots in 2024.
Indian Cricketers who retired this year (2024)
(1) Saurabh Tiwary (All formats)
Saurabh Tiwary took retirement from all forms of cricket after the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season. He has played domestic cricket for Jharkhand for almost 17 years. Saurabh has been exceptional in First-Class cricket and in List-A cricket, scoring 8076 and 4050 runs with an average of 47.22 and 46.55.
Tiwary played 3 ODIs and scored 49 runs. With his form declining and aging, he decided to hang up his boots in all forms of cricket.
(2) Varun Aaron (All formats)
One of the another Indian cricketers from Jharkhand who retired this year. He also played his last competitive cricket in Ranji Trophy 2023-24. Aaron hasn’t achieved much success at the international level.
He was known for his pace and everyone remembers that ball to Stuart Broad on the 2014 England tour. He has played 9 ODIs and 9 Tests for India and took 29 wickets.
(3) Dinesh Karthik (All formats)
Dinesh Karthik has been an active cricketer in international cricket till 2022. He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket including the IPL this year. Throughout his long career, he has been in and out of the Indian team. He played 26 tests, 94 ODIs, and 60 T20Is for India from 2004 to 2024. We will now see him in the upcoming season of the SA20 league.
(4) Kedar Jadhav (All formats)
Kedar Jadhav used to be a utility player for India from 2015 to 2019. He has done well with the bat in the middle order and was used as a wicket-taker as well. After playing 73 ODIs, and 9 T20Is, he decided to retire from all forms of cricket.
(5) Virat Kohli (T20Is)
An Indian superstar has decided to leave T20Is after winning the T20 WC 2024. He played an outstanding inning in the final when the team needed him the most. We will continue to see him in the ODIs and Tests.
(6) Rohit Sharma (T20Is)
Rohit Sharma has also relinquished the shortest format of the game after winning the T20 WC 2024. He won the title as captain and became the 2nd Indian captain after MS Dhoni to win the title. Rohit also holds the record of hitting the fastest century in T20Is. He scored 35 balls hundred against Sri Lanka in T20Is.
We might also see the last of Rohit Sharma in Test cricket after Sydney’s test in BGT 2024-25.
(7) Ravindra Jadeja (T20Is)
Along with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, he has also decided to quit T20Is after T20 WC 2024. He has played 74 T20Is for India. Jadeja gives the right balance to the team and has the ability to turn games with the ball, bat, and in the field.
(8) Shikhar Dhawan (All formats)
At the end of his professional career, he was only playing ODIs. When Shubman Gill came into the scene and did well, Shikhar’s chances in the ODIs started to decline as well.
He hasn’t been in good touch in the last few IPL seasons as well. So he decided to retire from all forms of cricket. We recently saw him playing in the Nepal Premier League.
(9) Barinder Sran (All formats)
One of the other Indian cricketers who retired this year. A 31-year-old left-arm pacer from Punjab has started his international career on a high note. But he failed to perform consistently.
Sran played 6 ODIs and 2 T20Is for India and took 13 wickets.
(10) Wriddhiman Saha (All formats)
Saha has also decided to retire from all formats after seeing no opportunity to return to the Indian team. From 2010 to 2021, he played 40 tests and 9 ODIs for India. Saha has been one of the finest wicketkeepers in the world and served the Indian test team.
(11) Siddarth Kaul (All formats)
An Indian pacer has decided to retire from the IPL on November 28, 2024. He will also explore franchise cricket outside India. We might also see him in the leagues for retired Indian cricketers.
(12) R Ashwin (All formats)
R Ashwin is the latest addition to the list of retired Indian cricketers in 2024. After the Brisbane test in BGT 2024-25, he announced his retirement in a press conference. He has played 106 tests, 116 ODIs, and 65 T20Is for India.
However, he is still open to playing club cricket/IPL in the near future.
