Ruturaj Gaikwad –  Winning the Orange Cap Race in IPL 2023?

In yesterday’s huge match, Mumbai Indians (MI), the five-time IPL champion, was defeated by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets to win the match. In addition, their star-opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad broke some huge records en route to becoming the leading run scorer in the IPL 2023.

IPL 2023 Orange Cap Race

Ruturaj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is currently in the fourth for the Orange Cap in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 with 197 runs in four games. Ruturaj scored 92 runs against Gujarat Titans on March 31 to launch his IPL 2023 campaign to a thrilling start. He followed it up by scoring 57 runs in his debut IPL match in Chennai.

Additionally, in the IPL 2023 match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Ruturaj Gaikwad became the fastest Indian batter to amass 3000 T20 runs. 

The milestone was achieved by Ruturaj when he reached 15 runs during Mumbai’s 158-run chase against CSK. In his 91st innings, the Maharashtra player passed KL Rahul (93 innings) to become the fastest Indian to score 3000 T20I runs.

Ruturaj scored 635 runs during CSK’s championship-winning campaign. Earning him the Orange Cap for most runs in the IPL in 2021. He looks to repeat a similar feat in another season for the Chennai Super Kings.

David Warner of the Delhi Capitals (DC), has 209 runs in four games. Jos Buttler of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), has 204 runs in four games, and Shikhar Dhawan is leading the orange cap race this IPL 2023 with 225 runs.

With 139 runs in three matches and 126 runs in two matches, respectively, Kyle Mayers from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Shikhar Dhawan from the Punjab Kings (PBKS) are also among the top five contenders.

Gaikwad gets huge praise from his old teammate

Suresh Raina is a former player for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He praised Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad highly for their outstanding batting displays against the Mumbai Indians (MI). On Saturday, April 8, at Mumbai’s famed Wankhede Stadium against their arch-rivals CSK, MI lost for the second time in a row.

Rahane and Gaikwad are the two batters who were born in Maharashtra. They contributed crucial runs during the chase to secure the two points against the five-time champions. Rahane, 34, scored 61 runs off just 27 balls, smashing seven boundaries and three maximums.

On the other hand, Gaikwad kept up his good form and guided the team to victory with a precise 40 off 36 balls, remaining unbeaten.

Suresh Raina, a former CSK man, is currently a JioCinema pundit. He was thrilled by the two batters’ performance for CSK. Furthermore, he emphasized how efficiently the two exploited the conditions, given that they were locals.
