The mini-auction of IPL 2023 was a great success. It even made some new records for the most expensive player this year. Sam Curran of England was sold for a huge INR 18.50 crores. In fact, the second-highest bid surpassed last year’s highest one. It is for Cameron Green with Rs. 17.50 crores.
With those bids, there are players who remain unsold. As of course, there are a fixed number of slots. Thus not all could be bought. Only 80 players were sold during the auction. Also, there might be people wondering about some unsold players, that must be on one of the teams. Yes, most Indian premier league fans think so. However, franchises do have certain reasons too.
Below we have five of those who should have got the buyer, but did not.
1. Dawid Malan
Dawid Malan is a left hand batsman from England. There was a time when he was at the top of the list of T20 players ICC Ranking. Also, he was in the top order in England’s cricket team.
During England’s “Hundred” competition, his strike rate was 162.81. In nine innings, his score was 377 runs.
Most importantly, he was part of the team of England that won the T20 World Cup. Though his role in the tournament was limited.
For IPL 2023, franchises were showing more interest in getting all-rounders. Thus, it could be the reason that Dawid was unable to be part of any of the ten franchises.
2. Paul Stirling
Here is another player who was thought by many to see in the IPL 2023. There is no lack of experience in this Batsman from Ireland. He has been playing in a plethora of T20 leagues all over the world. Still, none of the franchises did show interest in him.
This is definitely because of the fact that he is not performing well since last year. In fact, everyone saw his performance in the T20 world Cup. And, that is why the franchises might have lost interest in him.
Besides scoring the second highest in the team, he did not score more than 170 runs in 7 innings.
3. Baba Indrajit
Indrajit is quite a wicketkeeper from India. Moreover, his batting skills are also very good. He is a top-order batsman for the team of Tamil Nadu. His scoring record in List A cricket and first-class cricket, from past years, is impressive too. His batting style and technique are magnificent.
Surprisingly, IPL 2023 franchises bought 7 Indian wicket-keepers out of 12 in total. Still, he did not manage to get in. The reason behind it is his performance for KKR last season. In the three matches, he got to play, his score was just 21 runs. Thus, the team dropped him, and no one bid for him.
4. Sandeep Sharma
Sandeep Sharma was shocked at not being sold in IPL 2023. In fact, he gave the statement as “I’m shocked and disappointed. I don’t know why I went unsold. I’ve done well whichever team I had played for and genuinely thought some team would bid for me. To be honest, I was not expecting this. Don’t even know where it has gone wrong. In domestic cricket, I have been performing well. In the Ranji Trophy, last round, I took seven wickets. I did so well in Syed Mushtaq Ali”
The bowler has experienced 104 matches in IPL. And still, luck did not favor him. But, of course, he might get a chance in later seasons.
5. Chris Jordan
Here is the most surprising unsold player of IPL 2023. Chris Jordan is a majestic all-rounder from England. Besides the all-rounders being in demand this year, he still did not get a way in. He is good with the bat as well as the bowl. Being an athletic player, his fielding is also a plus point. During the T20 World Cup, his performance was great too. In fact, he saved the matches during death overs. And, CSK needed such a player.
Still, he got no bid at all.
Conclusion
Though the number of players who did not get any bid during the auction, they might get a chance as a replacement. But, still, some can not believe that few good players from those who are not playing in the IPL 2023. But of course, the brains of franchises may have different plans for the team. So, they need to work accordingly.
