The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is just 10 days away and every franchise will look to start fresh for the next season. After the retention list is out, the teams will now plan to make a good team in the auction, and eyes will be on some of the big players who were not retained by their previous franchise. KL Rahul, a regular member of the Indian team will also feature in the IPL 2025 mega auction and he will look for a new home for the next season.
Now, maybe there will be a homecoming for KL Rahul in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) where he will reunite with Virat Kohli.
KL Rahul, in an interview with Star Sports, has talked about his early days in the IPL with RCB and how he enjoys his time there. He also talked about the IPL 2016 final loss and showed willingness to go to RCB again. Today, we will see what exactly has Rahul said about the RCB comeback in the IPL 2025. So let’s start.
KL Rahul parted ways with LSG
After last season’s clips went viral between then LSG captain KL Rahul and owner Sanjiv Goenka, it was almost certain that the Indian batter would not stay with the franchise for too long. After the IPL 2025 retention list was out, no one was shocked to see the absence of KL Rahul in the LSG’s retention list as it was on the cards.
Although Sanjiv Goenka has resolved all the rumors and called Rahul as ‘family’, now KL Rahul will have to find a new home in the next IPL season.
KL Rahul talked about his early days in the IPL with RCB
KL Rahul has started his IPL career with RCB. He came to RCB in 2013 before going to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for two years. The Indian batter again came back to RCB in 2016 and did well in the middle order, scoring 397 runs.
Rahul then joined Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings) before his last 3-year stint with LSG. Now, in an interview with Star Sports, he talked about his initial days in RCB. Rahul said he enjoyed playing for RCB and knows the Chinnaswamy well. Bengaluru is his home and he would love to be back in RCB.
Rahul also said it’s not in his hands to go as the auction can take you in any team. “I had fun playing at home for RCB. I began my career at Chinnaswamy, therefore I knew it very well.” – KL Rahul in an interview with Star Sports (quoted by us).
Rahul said people in Bengaluru know him as a local Kannada boy. “I would love to return to the franchise because Bengaluru is where I call home.” However, since you can go anywhere with an auction, let’s be realistic.” – he added (quoted by us).
Rahul not looking for a captaincy role
After parting ways with LSG, KL Rahul is not looking for a captaincy role in a new franchise. He is happy to be with whatever opportunities come his way, whether as a player or as a captain of an IPL franchise.
“I’d never ask to be captain. It’s another matter entirely if a team thinks I’m a good leader and they enjoy my style of T20 cricket play. It won’t, however, determine my position in the auction.” – Rahul on the captaincy role in the IPL.
Want to be a part of the franchise with a good environment – KL Rahul
Everything seems to be not good with Rahul and LSG as indirect statements against each other coming up from both sides. Earlier, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka said the franchise wants those players who put the teams before personal goals. Many would believe that the statement is against Rahul.
Now, Rahul said he wanted to go to a franchise that has a good environment. He is also ready for any role and is flexible to bat anywhere. “I want to be a part of the franchise that has a good environment. Since the beginning of my work, I have demonstrated my flexibility in whatever capacity. Anywhere is a good place for me to bat. Any responsibility that is assigned to me is acceptable to me.” – he said (quoted by us).
Rahul on the IPL 2016 final loss
Rahul also talked about how he and Virat always discuss the IPL 2016 final loss. It remains in his memory very fresh. He said it would be a fairy tale to be at the bottom to win seven games to qualify and then win a final at home.
Conclusion
So this is what KL Rahul has to say on his homecoming for RCB in IPL 2025. It would be great if Rahul came back to the RCB and reunited with Virat Kohli. He shares a good bond with Virat and can be destructive at the top on a flat Chinnaswamy wicket. Rahul can also give a wicketkeeping option and can lead the side as he has captained PBKS and LSG for a long time. So he can complete a lot of requirements of the team.
