IPL 2025 Retention List: Pant, Iyer in Auction, Dhoni To play As Uncapped

A much-awaited IPL 2025 retention list is out and we have seen some obvious choices and some interesting releases as well by the franchises. One of the most shocking and unexpected release is either Rishabh Pant leaving or Delhi Capitals releasing him before the auction. Another one would be a captain of the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer has also been released. Today, we will see the full list of Indian Premier League IPL 2025 retention and see which player gets how much amount by the franchises. So let’s start.

IPL 2025 Retention List of all IPL Teams

NOTE:

(1) Every franchise has a total purse of INR 120 crore to spend.

(2) The franchises can retain a total of 6 players; either via direct retention or through RTM (Right to Match).

(3) A maximum of 5 capped and 2 uncapped players can be retained.

(4) Salary slabs of retained players:-

1st Retention – INR 18 CR.

2nd Retention – INR 14 CR.

3rd Retention – INR 11 CR.

4th Retention – INR 18 CR.

5th Retention – INR 14 CR.

(5) The franchise can also give more than this salary slab, but it will be deducted from their purse.

(6) If the franchises decides to give less amount than the salary slabs, still a minimum salary amount of retained players will be deducted from the purse according to the salary slabs. Some teams like KKR and DC have given lesser amount to the players, unlike the minimum salary slabs. The remaining amount will be exhausted and the franchise will not use that amount in the mega auction.

6th Retention – INR 4 CR. (uncapped player)

Mumbai Indians (MI)

The fans were waiting to see what will be the composition of the MI team in the IPL 2025 retention list. They were successful in keeping their core group intact. At one stage, it looks like Rohit Sharma will not stay with MI after the last season. But they have convinced him to be in the team.

Another interesting decision is that MI have continued with Hardik Pandya as captain despite Suryakumar Yadav (India’s T20I captain) in the team.

KKR has left their captain Shreyas Iyer out from the IPL 2025 retention list. Also, at one stage, some reports suggests that Russell might not be retained by the KKR. But, they have kept the big West Indian all-rounder in the team. KKR has filled all 6 slots and spent only INR 57 CR.
