IPL 2025 Retention List: Pant, Iyer in Auction, Dhoni To play As Uncapped

A much-awaited IPL 2025 retention list is out and we have seen some obvious choices and some interesting releases as well by the franchises. One of the most shocking and unexpected release is either Rishabh Pant leaving or Delhi Capitals releasing him before the auction. Another one would be a captain of the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer has also been released. Today, we will see the full list of Indian Premier League IPL 2025 retention and see which player gets how much amount by the franchises. So let’s start.

IPL 2025 Retention List of all IPL Teams

NOTE:

(1) Every franchise has a total purse of INR 120 crore to spend.

(2) The franchises can retain a total of 6 players; either via direct retention or through RTM (Right to Match).

(3) A maximum of 5 capped and 2 uncapped players can be retained.

(4) Salary slabs of retained players:-

1^st Retention – INR 18 CR.

2^nd Retention – INR 14 CR.

3^rd Retention – INR 11 CR.

4^th Retention – INR 18 CR.

5^th Retention – INR 14 CR.

(5) The franchise can also give more than this salary slab, but it will be deducted from their purse.

(6) If the franchises decides to give less amount than the salary slabs, still a minimum salary amount of retained players will be deducted from the purse according to the salary slabs. Some teams like KKR and DC have given lesser amount to the players, unlike the minimum salary slabs. The remaining amount will be exhausted and the franchise will not use that amount in the mega auction.

6^th Retention – INR 4 CR. (uncapped player)

Mumbai Indians (MI)

The fans were waiting to see what will be the composition of the MI team in the IPL 2025 retention list. They were successful in keeping their core group intact. At one stage, it looks like Rohit Sharma will not stay with MI after the last season. But they have convinced him to be in the team.

Another interesting decision is that MI have continued with Hardik Pandya as captain despite Suryakumar Yadav (India’s T20I captain) in the team.

RTM Available – 1 (uncapped)

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

KKR has left their captain Shreyas Iyer out from the IPL 2025 retention list. Also, at one stage, some reports suggests that Russell might not be retained by the KKR. But, they have kept the big West Indian all-rounder in the team. KKR has filled all 6 slots and spent only INR 57 CR.

Purse Remaining – INR 41 CR.

RTM Available – 0

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

On expected lines, KL Rahul will not play for LSG in IPL 2025. They have gone with 3 capped and 2 uncapped retentions with Pooran as their first preferred retention.

 Purse Remaining – INR 69 CR.

RTM Available – 1 (capped)

Gujarat Titans (GT)

Shubman Gill has got the pay cut, but will be there as captain. They have also gone with 3 capped and 2 uncapped retentions.

Purse Remaining – INR 69 CR

RTM Available – 1 (capped)

Delhi Capitals (DC)

DC not retaining Rishabh Pant is one of the most shocking release of the IPL 2025. DC’s IPL 2025 retention list contains 3 Indians and one overseas player.

Purse Remaining – INR 73 CR

RTM Available – 2 (either 2 capped or one uncapped)

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

SRH has retained 5 players and spent INR 65 CR. Heinrich Klaasen has got the highest amount out of all the IPL 2025 retained players.

Purse Remaining – INR 45 CR

RTM Available – 1 (uncapped)

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

After the BCCI brought back the old uncapped player rule, MS Dhoni will not play as an uncapped player. They have retained 5 players, that includes 4 Indians and one Sri Lankan.

Purse Remaining – INR 55 CR

RTM Available – 1 (either one capped or uncapped)

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

RCB has released their captain Faf du Plessis and will look for a new captain for the next season. They have only retained 3 players, with Virat being the first pick.

Purse Remaining – INR 83 CR

RTM Available – 3 (either 2 capped and one uncapped, or all three capped)

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

RR has retained 6 players and spent the whole INR 79 CR according to the minimum slab amount. They have gone with 5 capped and one uncapped player in their IPL 2025 retention.

Purse Remaining – INR 41 CR

RTM Available – 0

Punjab Kings (PBKS)

PBKS has been smart in terms of amount spending. They have only retained 2 uncapped players and will go with the most amount in the purse in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Purse Remaining – INR 110.5 CR

RTM Available – 4 (all 4 capped)

 This is the IPL 2025 retention list that we all were waiting for. Now, it will be interesting to see the franchises plan and strategize their auction, as the next mega auction is in three years. They have to build a strong core team, which will reward them until then. Let’s see how things pan out.
