IPL 2024: Why Did RCB Release Josh Hazlewood?

Reasons Why RCB Released Josh Hazlewood Ahead of IPL 2024? Tricky Reasons to Be Known

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is one such team that always had a heart-breaking season in IPL (Indian Premier League). Ahead of the IPL 2024, RCB released Josh Hazlewood, which stunned many fans for not retaining a core player in their team.

Josh Hazlewood is one such talented bowler who is expertise in handling the new ball in an efficient way. The 32-year-old bowler has contributed a significant portion to his team’s success in the World Cup 2023. Hazlewood played 11 matches of the CWC 2023 tournament and took 16 wickets. Moreover, Hazlewood grabbed two crucial wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja in the 2023 World Cup finals.

The Australian fast bowler was a part of the winning squad for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the year 2021. Even after delivering his impressive performance in that season by grabbing 11 wickets in 9 matches, the star bowler found himself on the list of released players.

Later, he was reserved by the RCB for INR 7.75 crores during the IPL 2022 mega auction. Unfortunately, Josh Hazlewood had to play only 3 matches and took 3 wickets for RCB due to a severe heel injury.

Hazlewood gave a heart-and-soul performance for RCB in the year 2022 by taking 20 wickets in 12 matches. This includes his BBM (Best Bowling in Match) figures of 4-25.

Despite giving the best performance, RCB has always been recognized with the chokers tag.

RCB has been into the IPL finals three times during the years 2009, 2011 and 2016. But, the team has never lifted the IPL trophy. Perhaps, this might be the main reason for RCB being recognized with the chokers’ tag, similar to the fate of the South African team in international cricket.

Since 2015, Hazlewood has been pulled out of the IPL for the most number of times.
