IPL 2023 Auction: A Big Task For MI To Replace Pollard

IPL 2023 auction is about to start this month. The excitement is already at its peak. All the teams made their moves and are set for the auctions. Teams like Hydrabad and Punjab are going with a new approach. While teams like Mumbai Indians, CSK, KKR, and RCB have their core team.

However, Mumbai Indians will not go with Kieron Pollard. He is retiring from all forms of cricket and will join as MI’s batting coach. Those are some huge shoes to fill for any player, even physically.

There are lots of young players around the globe who might earn big in this auction. And Mumbai Indians will definitely look to get at least one as Pollard’s replacement.

Gameplan Of Mumbai Indians For IPL 2023

MI has all the boxes ticked in the top order. They have Rohit, Ishan, and SKY. the middle order looks stable with Tilak Varma and Tim David. Even their bowling looks better as they have Archer and Bumrah together.

But they will need an all-rounder. There is no Hardik nor Kieron Pollard for MI. And that was the reason why they were at the bottom of the table. However, with decent money in their wallet, they can buy some all-rounders in IPL 2023 auctions.

So here is the list of 3 players that Mumbai Indians may look to buy. These players will be like-for-like replacements for Kieron Pollard.

Sam Curran

Curran will be in very high demand for this year’s IPL. He is in red-hot form and is bowling exceptionally well in the death overs. For Mumbai Indians, he can bat at a lower-middle order and give them crucial overs with the ball.

In terms of batting, he is not a big hitter as Pollard. But along with Tim David, he can do the needful. Also, MI will love to have a left-arm bowler in their squad. One more thing is his age, Mumbai can invest in Sam Curran for a long term.

The only problem with Sam is that he is an English player. So during Ashes or ICC events, he may not be available. But Mumbai has bought him for Cape Towns, which is their South African franchise.

So overall unless MI is out of money, they will go for Sam Curran

Jason Holder

The countrymate of Kieron Pollard and a lethal all-rounder, Jason Holder. He is one of the best all-rounders in the limited-overs format. So MI would like to go for him. Jason can complete his quota of 4 overs, do some hitting at the end, and finish games for MI.

Additionally, he can be budget-friendly, so MI can pick more players. Mumbai Indians may think of any other young option. But if you can get someone like Jason then you will have money to buy some bowlers as well.

Ben Stokes

MI fans are literally waiting to see a star all-rounder in their team. Many of the MI fans are saying it will be Ben Stokes. And there are chances of it. There isn’t a single reason why MI should not buy Ben Stokes.

The advantage that Ben stokes has over Sam is his experience. However, now Ben is only available for limited-overs format. So you can expect more franchise cricket from him. He is the man for big tournaments and now is his time to nail it. MI should definitely go for Ben Stokes.

Final Words

Mumbai Indians are very well known for their scouting. MI is the team that makes good players legends. Hardik Pandya, Jasprith Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and many more. So you never know MI can bring an unknown player who can be a perfect replacement for Pollard.

However, it is not going to be easy for any player to replace Pollard. But, having experience at the international level can definitely help. So it will be better to have any one of the above players in the squad along with new talent.
