Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been one of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. They becomes the IPL champions for the fifth time when they beat Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2023 final. MS Dhoni led the team very well and they used all his resources perfectly. CSK has covered all the basics despite some injury concerns in IPL 2023. But they will look to strengthen their squad for the IPL 2024.
IPL 2024 Auction Date
IPL 2024 Auction Date is officially not announced yet but is scheduled to be on December 1st week.
2024 IPL Auction Venue
Mumbai is expected for the IPL 2024 Auction venue.
Today, we will see the 3 players Chennai Super Kings CSK might target in the IPL 2024 auction. So let’s get into it quickly.
3 Players CSK might target in IPL 2024
(1) James Neesham
The Kiwi all-rounder has been one of the hard hitters of the cricket ball. He can win you games single-handedly on his day. We have seen that the New Zealand team trusted him during the ICC WC 2019 final when they send him to bat in the super over. He has hit a six as well to Jofra Archer, but unfortunately, his team ended up on the losing side (based on the boundary count rule).
His bowling is a plus for the team
Other than batting in the middle and lower middle order, he can bowl a few overs of seam bowling as well. It gives the right balance to the team and gives an extra bowling option for MS Dhoni and CSK. CSK must target him in the IPL 2024 auction.
Previous IPL teams for James Neesham
Neesham has been in and out of the IPL teams. He started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils in 2014. Then, he played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
His last IPL stint was with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2022. Let’s see if he gets a contract in IPL 2024 or not.
(2) Manish Pandey
Manish Pandey has been one of the most talented Indian cricketers for so many years. He has done well in the IPL and in domestic cricket. But unfortunately, he didn’t burst into the scene of international cricket as well as IPL and domestic cricket. He got some chances in international cricket in ODIs and T20Is but didn’t able to be a regular member of the team.
Pandey in the middle order
But his IPL numbers are decent enough and CSK might target him, especially after Ambati Rayudu’s retirement. Manish Pandey can play the role in the middle order (No. 3-5), just like Rayudu. He is a sweet-timer of the cricket ball and can play an important part for CSK in IPL 2024.
Pandey’s IPL teams
Manish Pandey started his IPL career with MI in 2008. He played for RCB for two years (2009-10), before Pune Warriors India bought him for three years (2011-13).
Pandey’s best came with KKR
His best performance came in the IPL when he played for KKR from 2014 to 2017. How can we forget his innings of 94 off 50 balls in that IPL 2014 final? Pandey is also the first Indian to score a hundred in the IPL.
He played for SRH from 2018 to 2021. LSG banks on him in IPL 2022, but his performance wasn’t up to the mark. In IPL 2023, he played for Delhi Capitals.
CSK might target him in the IPL 2024 auction. He can be a very handy middle-order batter for them.
(3) Sam Curran
Sam Curran has been one of the best white ball all-rounders in world cricket right now. He is a very good new ball bowler who can swing the ball both ways.
Other than his new ball ability, he can nail those Yorkers in the death overs and has so many variations in his bowling. Curran has a very good sharp bouncer as well in his armory.
Handy batter in the lower order
Sam Curran is a very good batter who can hit the ball long when needed. His ability with the bat is there to see for everyone. He has done well with the bat for England and other teams in league cricket.
Curran already played for CSK before
In 2020-21, Sam Curran played for CSK and has done well with both bat and ball. MS Dhoni also used him as a floater in the batting lineup while sending him up the order. CSK might again target him as there is a possibility that PBKS might release him due to so much price tag.
Curran with PBKS
Sam Curran started his IPL career with Punjab in 2019. But his performance wasn’t good enough. PBKS again bought him in IPL 2023 auction, for a whopping INR 18.25 crore. He becomes the most expensive player in IPL history. But he failed to justify his price tag in the season.
Conclusion
So these are the 3 players we think that CSK might target in IPL 2024 auction. Let’s see what will be the combination of CSK in IPL 2024.
