The IPL 2023 points table is getting trickier day by day with only Gujarat Titans (GT) as the only team who qualified officially for the playoffs. Other than Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC), the rest of the teams have a chance to qualify for the playoffs. Gujarat Titans Going Strong
Gujarat Titans are the first team to qualify for IPL playoffs 2023. They are sitting 1st positiong in the IPL 2023 points table with 9 wins in 13 games. They will surely finish at the top even if they lose their last league stage game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
GT has been phenomenal ever since they came into the scene in the tournament. Last year, they won the title in their first outing. This year as well, they are looking solid and will look to win their 2nd consecutive title.
CSK and LSG have fate in their hands
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have fate in their own hands. Both are standing at No. 2 and 3 respectively with 15 points each. CSK has a better net run rate (NRR) than LSG. If they both win their last league stage match, they will be through to the playoffs with 17 points. All other teams can’t get to 17 points. Only Mumbai Indians (MI) and RCB have a chance to go to 16 points.
In case, CSK and LSG lost their respective games, they will still qualify in the top 4 but they need some other team’s results in their favor.
Royal Challengers Bangalore & Mumbai Indians can go to 16 points
Both MI and RCB are at 14 points in 13 games. RCB has a better NRR than MI. That’s why, RCB is at No. 4 and MI at No. 5 in the IPL 2023 points table.
Both need each other to lose their last game
Both will look to win their last league stage match so that they can finish on 16 points. MI will need to win big against SRH and will hope that RCB either loses or win by a less margin.
The same goes with the RCB, they would want MI to either lose or win by a less margin. In that case, if RCB and MI both have the same number of points, RCB will go to the IPL 2023 playoffs with a better NRR.
Will teams qualify in the top 4 ( IPL PLayoffs 2023) with just 14 points?
Leave the top 5 teams aside, will we see teams qualifying with just 14 points? We have seen in the past as well that teams went to the top 4 with 14 points. But this time, these teams need other teams’ results in their favor.
Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are standing at No. 6, 7, and 8 respectively with 14 points each in 13 games.
Qualification scenarios for RR
RR has a better NRR than the other two, that’s why they have they have a better NRR than the others. First, they need to win the last game against PBKS. And then hope that MI and RCB to lose their last league stage match. They will also need KKR to either lose the last match or win by a less margin.
How KKR can qualify?
Fewer chances for KKR, but not impossible. The only concern for them is their NRR. KKR might also finish with 14 points if they win the last game against LSG.
But, KKR needs to win by a very big margin to better their NRR than MI, RCB, and RR. They will also need those 3 teams to lose their respective games.
Even more difficult for PBKS
PBKS are mathematically still in the hunt, but chances are very bleak for them. They need to win the last game first, by a very big margin. Then, they need RR, KKR, MI, and RCB to lose their games. It is very hard that every result will fall in their favor.
DC and SRH are already eliminated
Both SRH and DC haven’t played well in the IPL 2023. They will look to rectify themselves next year.
Which 4 teams can go to the playoffs?
Right now, the four teams we think can go to the IPL 2023 playoffs are GT, CSK, LSG, and MI. GT is already through and we are expecting CSK and LSG to win their respective games against DC and KKR.
MI also can beat SRH and RCB have a strong opponent in their last match. So we are predicting these 4 teams (GT, CSK, LSG, and MI) to go into the top 4.
Anyone can beat anyone on a given day
