Rohit Sharma about the T20 World Cup squad: Throws Light upon the selection of Indian players
By highlighting the nature of the professional sport, Rohit Sharma about the T20 World Cup squad stated that the most talented players might be left out of the upcoming grand tournament:
“When compared to the ODI World Cup, we tried with many players in the T20I matches as well. Despite they perform well, certain talented individuals are left out when the final list is released. You can understand how disappointing it would be for them.
But our role is to bring clarity to the team. Everyone in our group of 25 to 30 players comprehend well with their duties well. Although the selectors haven’t finalized the T20 World Cup squad, we have a strong idea of 8 to 10 players who can perform exceptionally and deliver their best performance.”
Furthermore, the Indian skipper shares how to adapt to different pitch conditions in the USA:
“Typically, the nature of the pitch in the West Indies is slow and dry. Thereby, we need to pick up wickets properly. Me and ‘Rahul Bhai’ (refers to the Indian Team Head Coach- Rahul Dravid), have continually highlighted the importance of clarity throughout the team.
Honestly, captaincy has taught me one important lesson. You cannot please everyone always. Your concentration must be on the team’s requirements.”
The above statement of Rohit Sharma provides his neutral mindset about the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Rohit Sharma expresses his strategies after scoring a century against Afghanistan: IND vs AFG 3rd T20I 2024
Rohit Sharma– The Hitman, scored his career-best T20I knock against Afghanistan with a score of 121 runs from 69 balls( including 11 fours and 8 sixes).
Also, he shares about his multiple attempts to play reverse hits during the tricky situations of a match:
“I have been rehearsing day and night in the nets and it finally paid off well… Moreover, to confuse the bowlers and keep them under pressure, you need to attempt to play some of the rarest shots. It isn’t easy, but you have to step out of your comfort zone.
Especially, it becomes mandatory to try something new when the ball isn’t coming onto the bat easily. Such scenarios happen if the ball is spinning and doesn’t provide any opportunity to hit straight.
For the past two years, I have been practicing reverse sweep as well as the sweep shot in the nets.
Also, you would have observed that I have played such shots in one or two test matches.
When you have the options, it is up to you to how much extent you can utilize the opportunity.
Since the ball was spinning and provided additional gripping today, I decided to play with the spin. Rather, than stepping out and trying for big hits, I had to preserve my wicket and ensured to bat till the end”.
Ultimately, Rohit Sharma’s innings have created many sensational records in the T20 format by batting with a different approach.
Rohit Sharma about the T20 World Cup squad: Players Preparation
Playing these three games, Rohit Sharma about the T20 World Cup squad highlights his team’s preparation for the grand tournament:
“Since I haven’t played for 14 months in this format, I consulted Rahul Bhai. Rather, I was just watching the matches without participating in any of the games
After discussion, I got a clear idea of a few things. We wanted to do something differently and implement new strategies.
Also, we expected our bowlers to bowl differently. A few of them weren’t comfortable bowling in the powerplay overs. As a result, we had to use them here ( in super overs). Similarly, some of them weren’t in their best form bowling at the death overs. We wanted to improve in certain areas before the tournament.”
