Prithvi Shaw Recovers From Injury: Ready to Participate in IPL 2024
The 24-year-old Maharashtrian batsman Prithvi Shaw recovers from injury by showing a positive sign of hope for his participation in IPL 2024. Earlier, he started practicing in nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
For the upcoming Ranji Trophy tournament in 2024, Prithvi Shaw was completely set to make a return to the Mumbai squad. Recently, he played his first match against Bengal, in Kolkata on 2nd February 2024(Friday).
Prithvi Shaw scored 35 runs from 42 balls( including 5 fours) and his team scored a total of 412-10 in 94.3 overs.
Over the past five months, Prithvi had to undergo a severe knee injury. Consequently, he had to keep himself away from competitive cricket. The injury occurred while playing an English one-day championship for Northamptonshire in August 2023.
Interestingly, he achieved a double hundred in that match against Somerset. Prithvi Shaw’s career-best performance score of 244 runs in 153 balls included 28 fours and 11 sixes.
An MRI scan confirmed his injury of grade-II tear of the posterior cruciate ligament. Following the intense damage, he traveled to London and successfully underwent surgery there. Afterward, he went through the rehabilitation period in NCA for three months.
Furthermore, he missed the white ball tournaments and four games for Mumbai in the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy.
During his absence, Mumbai’s batting lineup struggled badly. Shivam Dube was the only batsman in the team who scored a century in the entire tournament, against Uttar Pradesh.
However, Mumbai managed to win 3 out of 4 games in the continuing Ranji Trophy. Currently, the team ranks at the top position of Group B.
After Prithvi Shaw recovers from injury, it is expected that he will tune his batting skills. Additionally, experts feel that he will certainly play for Delhi Capitals in the 17th season of the Indian Premier League.
Prithvi Shaw recovers from injury and makes a comeback
After Prithvi Shaw recovers from injury, the NCA provides a green signal indicating him to actively take part in competitive cricket contests.
Earlier, the right-handed Indian batsman recovered from his injury. But, Nitin Patel, the NCA’s head of the medical panel, suggested that Prithvi had to undergo skill-based workloads severely. Furthermore, he had to pass the high-intensity mobility drills before providing him a clearance certificate.
One of the major reasons why NCA delayed giving clearance is because of his fitness. Many fans and experts criticized his bulky body structure and suggested he should focus on shedding extra kilos of weight to ensure longevity in his career.
The NCA recently conveyed to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) about Prithvi’s improvement during the batting and fielding sessions.
Before deciding to include Prithvi Shaw in the Ranji Trophy, the NCA planned to intensify his training sessions to a peak level. It included a change in the direction of his playing style and agility exercises for three weeks before returning into action.
However, the Delhi Capitals star batsman managed to pass the severe test with flying colors.
When selectors included Prithvi Shaw in the Mumbai squad, he was excited. He expressed that life has to move on and nothing can be done with the past.

Previously, former legendary spinner Anil Kumble clearly stated that it would be a make-or-break season for Shaw in IPL 2024. Also, he pointed out that Prithvi Shaw’s performance dropped severely in the past couple of seasons. He was in his peak form in IPL 2021 by scoring 479 runs in 15 matches.
