‘What an embarrassment’: No electricity at Raipur stadium ahead of IND vs AUS T20I 4th Match
A shadow looms over Raipur Stadium due to unpaid electricity bills. Australia vs India’s fourth Twenty20 international match at Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium has been tainted by an unanticipated problem because there is no electricity in some areas of the stadium. This problem results from an unpaid electricity bill of 3.16 crore that’s been outstanding since 2009.
The lack of power presents various issues that the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association must address quickly in order to maintain smooth, uninterrupted action. As things are, the government destabilized the energy connection five years ago, and the authority has made little attempt to improve the issue since then.
Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh media coordinator Tarunesh Singh Parihar Commented on Power Cut at Raipur Stadium
“As far as the stadium lights are concerned, I don’t know how much bill is outstanding, but a temporary connection has been taken in the name of CSCS,” Tarunesh Singh Parihar, media coordinator for the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh, stated.
Unpaid Payments & Blame Games
The power cut at the Raipur Stadium is not the first time. This stadium has facing these issues for a very long.
In 2018, half-marathon athletes were shocked to know there was no power in the Raipur stadium. After this issue, it was revealed that the stadium had reached the bill amount of 3.16 crore and this bill had been building since 2009.
The Public Works Department (PWD) was assigned to maintain the stadium once it was built. The rest of the costs have been given to the Sports Department. The continuing blame game between these two offices contributes to the unsettled power bill.
Despite the fact that the electricity company has written numerous letters requesting payment from PWD and the sports department, they have yet to be paid. Since the power outage in 2018, the stadium has hosted three international cricket matches. There are ongoing concerns regarding its ability to host such international events in the future.
Shreyas Iyer Returns To Indian Camp For 4th T20I – IND VS AUS
Shreyas Iyer, who was valuable for India in the recent ODI World Cup, has joined the national squad ahead of the fourth T20I. Notably, he last played a T20I match in November 2022 before suffering a back injury that forced him to miss the IPL 2023.
It is unclear whether the cricketer will immediately be inserted into the playing XI, as the middle order appears to be stacked at the moment. However, given his selection as the series’ vice-captain, Iyer is likely to replace Yashasvi Jaiswal or Tilak Varma in the playing XI.
