PBKS New Stadium Mullanpur to be Home Ground For IPL 2024. Not The Iconic Mohali!
The PCA – Punjab Cricket Association, had constructed a new stadium. It is acclaimed as PBKS New Stadium and also a PBKS home ground for IPL 2024. The decision was made to shift from the iconic Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium in Mohali to Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.

BCCI Vice President about PBKS New Stadium
Here is what the BCCI Vice President, Rajeev Shukla said about selecting Mullanpur as the PBKS New Stadium and omitting the traditional Mohali stadium. He said the current stadium in Mohali does not meet the requirements and standards of the ICC. It is important to obtain the consent of the ICC for choosing the venues. He further added saying it was for the first time that 12 venues have been chosen for the World Cup. Whereas, the previous World Cups had fewer venues.
Rajeev Shukla confirms that out of the chosen 12 venues, warm-up matches will be held in Trivandrum and Guwahati. Meanwhile, the remaining venues will have league matches. This includes 4 venues in the South Zone, 1 in the Central Zone, 2 in the West Zone, and 2 venues in the North Zone Delhi. Dharamshala will be hosting the matches.
Words of the PCA Secretary about PBKS New Stadium
The media officials received confirmation from the PCA Secretary, Dilsher Khanna about assessing the Mullanpur Stadium and they are likely to host IPL 2024 matches here in the PBKS New Stadium.
According to the sources, there are possibilities to host International matches starting with the India vs Afghanistan T20I Series in January. Dilsher Khanna himself confirms that IPL franchise representatives have inspected the Mullanpur Stadium and might witness Punjab Kings matches here in the upcoming season. However, a few construction works are pending. The work might complete soon at the venue. So, the fixture might relocate to Mohali.

He explained the playing area, key aspects, convenience, and facilities. It applies to players and fans. According to this announcement, it ensures that Mullanpur Stadium will soon be ready to host the IPL 2024 Matches.

Although it would have been tough for the PCA – Punjab Cricket Association to decide to shift from the iconic and traditional Mohali stadium. However, according to the detailed reports, the Mohali stadium did not meet the requirements and the standards of the ICC. It further leads to matches getting denied.
Earlier, the Punjab Kings had disappointed in the IPL campaign 2023, by finishing at the 8th position in the league table. Now they have decided to retain most of their key players for the coming season. They have confirmed securing players like Harshal Patel and Rilee Rossouw during the IPL 2024 Auction.
Overview of the PCB New Stadium at Mullanpur
The Mullanpur Stadium is the PCB New Stadium. Punjab Kings has its New Home Ground. It consists of a 30,000-member seating capacity. Also, it facilitates convenient vehicle parking that can approximately accommodate 1500-1900 cars. So it is considerably a large space that is capable of entertaining a huge population. Not the best but it is a good one!
At present, the heart of the stadium has 12 pitches which are under its best preparation. Meanwhile, Gate 1 is the team entrance and besides, and there is an extensive dressing room for the players. It includes a shower, sauna bath, buffet area, and massage rooms. Such a well-featured stadium deserves appreciation and might host many international matches here.
There are a few appreciable points like the Herringbone Drainage System which removes water after rainfall and that too within a short time under 20-30 minutes. The ground doesn’t use traditional soil and uses sand so it will provide better stability to the players.
