How an NPL is formed?

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) signed an NPR 330 million contract with Seven3Sports, an Indian sports management business, for a one-year franchise Twenty20 league event in Nepal. This arrangement allowed CAN to organize the Nepal T20 League in 2022. But there were a lot of disputes and accusations around the league, like match-fixing and corruption.

The CAN announced the creation of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) in January 2024. In a CAN’s central working committee meeting on Thursday, the decision was made. They revealed an official logo on August 19, 2024. Beyond just a visual representation, the Nepal Premier League’s logo captures the essence and legacy of the country. The legendary khukuri and a cricket bat are combined in the design to represent the courage of the Gurkhas and the spirit of Nepalese cricket.

How it will help Nepal Cricket in the future?

Nepal has been growing over the last few years as a cricketing nation. They have done well in an international circuit to be in that position. Nepal has won quite a few games against Associate members and shows glimpses of becoming a good team in the future. They have been competitive against member nations as well.

Now, having their own T20 league will help them to find new talents for the future. It will help the youngsters of Nepal to showcase their talent on a big platform. Also, playing with international players will give them much-needed exposure on a big stage.

The local players and youngsters competing in a highly competitive game will help them to uplift their game awareness, game sense, and much more.

Hosting a T20 league can stimulate economic activity through tourism, sponsorships, and merchandising. It creates job opportunities in various sectors, including sports management, hospitality, and media. The league encourages the development and upgrading of cricket infrastructure, such as stadiums and training facilities, which can be used for other events and community activities.
