Lanka Premier League 2023: All you need to know About

The Lanka Premier League 2023 is set to commence from July 30 in Colombo with the finalists of the last LPL edition (Jaffna Kings and Colombo Strikers) will face in the tournament opener. A total of 24 games will be played (including 2 Qualifiers, an eliminator, and a final) in the tournament in a span of 22 days. Today, we will tell you all the things you need to know about Lanka Premier League 2023. So let’s start.

Tournament Format

The tournament’ format is the same as the IPL (Indian Premier League). It’s just that the teams participating in the tournament are half (5 teams) of the teams participating in the IPL.

All the teams will play against each other twice in a double round-robin format. The top 4 teams will qualify for the next round. The top 2 teams will get one more chance to reach the final if they lost the first qualifier.

The teams who finished 3rd and 4th will play the eliminator and the team that loses in that game will be out of the tournament.

The winners of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 will play in the final.

Venues for Lanka Premier League 2023

Pallekele and Colombo will host the whole tournament. The first 5 games will be played in Colombo. After that, the next 8 games will be played in Pallekele before Colombo will host the rest of the tournament.

Playoffs details

All the playoffs game will be played in Colombo. The first qualifier and an eliminator will be played on August 17.

Final will be played on August 19 at the same ground.

Timings

The day games will start at 3:00 PM Local Time. And the night games will start at 7:30 PM Local Time.

Five teams will participate in Lanka Premier League 2023. Those are Jaffna Kings, Colombo Strikers, Galle Titans, Dambulla Aura, and B-love Kandy.

Jaffna won their 3rd consecutive LPL title in 2022 by beating Colombo Stars in the final. They won the close encounter by 2 wickets while chasing 164.
