We might see a major reshuffle ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction as some of the franchises might be tempted to change their captains. We might also see some of the big players going to the different franchises, other than their current one. Today, we will talk about all the major updates circulating in the media regarding the Indian Premier League IPL 2025. So let’s dive into it quickly.
NOTE: We are only informing the updates based on the reports circulating in all types of media. These are just media reports that we are presenting.
⏩ Rishabh Pant to join CSK before IPL 2025?
There was a report in the Republic news outlet that the current captain of Delhi Capitals (DC) and star Indian wicketkeeper batter might join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2025. Not just that, the reports also suggested that he might replace or push for a captaincy role in place of Ruturaj Gaikwad.
But, in the latest development, a source told IANS that Rishabh Pant will remain with the DC franchise. Pant has been with the DC franchise since 2016 when he made his IPL debut. He also captained the side in IPL 2021, 2022, and 2024 edition. The left-handed batter and wicketkeeper has played 111 games in the IPL and scored 3284 runs with an average of 35.31 and a strike rate of almost 149.
⏩ Will Rohit Sharma leave Mumbai Indians (MI)?
During the IPL 2024, there are reports which suggest a rift between Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. Rohit was asked to leave the role of captaincy of Mumbai Indians (MI) and Hardik Pandya has been given that role. Not just inside the dressing room, the fans’ outrage was massive and the reactions of the fans were there to see for everyone. The fans didn’t like the way Rohit was treated after winning 5 titles as captain of MI.
Well, whatever, the other franchises like DC or GT might offer Rohit Sharma the leadership role before the IPL 2025 mega auction. Even other franchises as well, considering he is a T20 WC-winning captain too. Rohit too would love to have a captaincy of an IPL franchise, and he is a current India captain as well in ODIs and Tests. Also, there is a strong possibility of MI not retaining all 4 big players: Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav before the auction. In that case, too, Rohit’s case to leave MI becomes more strong. Let’s see how things panned out.
⏩ Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav to leave MI
As far as Jasprit Bumrah is concerned, he was also looked as an India captain a few times ago. He even captained Team India in a Test match in England and in T20Is against Ireland. But MI would love to have a quality bowler like Bumrah on his side. And with that, his ambition of captaining an IPL franchise will go down as Hardik might be retained most likely. So Bumrah leaving the MI franchise, so chances are very low.
When it comes to Suryakumar Yadav, other franchise will try their best to have someone like Suryakumar Yadav on their side. Especially after he becomes a full-time Team India’s T20I captain. Also, he is a world-class T20 batter. If he wants, he can leave MI and join another franchise, that will offer him the captaincy as well.
⏩ KL Rahul’s homecoming to RCB in IPL 2025
KL Rahul is the current captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise. He joined LSG in 2021, and now after 3 years, he might look to change the franchise. Especially after we saw the viral clip of him with the LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka, who seems like yelling at Rahul after the team’s loss.
Some reports suggest that he will go to RCB again, and also can replace Faf du Plessis as captain. Although there is no confirmation yet.
⏩ Adani to take over the Gujarat Titans (GT) franchise
Adani Group could buy GT-franchise before the IPL 2025. As per the reports, CAC Capitals, which owned GT-franchise, already has an investment in top football leagues like La Liga, Premiership Rugby, Women’s Tennis Association, etc. They will look to offload most of the stakes of GT-franchise.
Adani Group was interested in buying the GT franchise before 2021 and placed a bid of INR 5100 crore. Not just the Adani Group, Torrent Group was also in contention to buy the GT franchise before 2021 and placed a bid of 4653 crore INR. Both the Groups lost to CAC Capitals in the bidding war at that time.
Adani Group also has a Gujarat-based women’s cricket team, Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
⏩ A few IPL teams might look to change their captains as well
Some of the IPL franchises like Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, etc might look to change the captain of the team as well. That’s because of the betterment of the franchise and some of the current captains are not getting the results as well.
Let’s see how things panned out. We will learn more as the IPL 2025 mega-auction date approaches.
