Shami & Suryakumar Out Longer Than Expected And May Miss Few Games In IPL 2024
Mohammed Shami & Suryakumar Yadav might take longer time than expected to return to Team India. As a result, Shami and SKY in IPL 2024 might miss a few games initially.
The BCCI Medical Team reports that Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami have not fully regained their fitness and have not given the clearance regarding that.
So both Shami and SKY in IPL 2024 might continue to be outside for a longer time.
Possibly, Mohammed Shami will miss the first 2 out of 5 test matches against England.
Whereas the return of SKY in IPL 2024 remains questioned until the 17th season starts.
However, the BCCI has announced India’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. But still, the team has not been announced for the test series against England.
Especially, compared to Mohammed Shami, the participation of SKY in IPL 2024 remains uncertain. It is because Shami has the chance to participate in the completing stages of the test series against England. In comparison, Suryakumar Yadav succumbed to a severe injury.
Mohammed Shami to miss Test Series against England
According to the received reports, Mohammed Shami has not started bowling yet. Probably he will have to prove his fitness by going to the NCA – National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
Earlier, the selectors prioritized Shami for the 2-match Test against South Africa. However, he was later ruled out due to fitness issues.
Regarding Shami’s return, the BCCI might consider things carefully and then decide. The other fast-pace bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah will be playing in the upcoming 5-match Test series against England.
The sources say that Shami looks doubtful for the first 2 test matches against England.
Mohammed Shami slams lack of clarity in T20WC Selection
Recently, Shami was honored with the Arjuna Award. At that time speaking to the media, he reported about the lack of clarity regarding his selection for the T20 World Cup.
The selectors omitted him from the Indian Cricket Team squads for the series (against Australia and South Africa). Team India played both series immediately after the completion of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup.
Several critics overlooked Shami for the upcoming 3-match against Afghanistan. However, he speaks in a very positive manner that if the performance is good in IPL 2024 then it might compel or push the selectors making them consider his position in the World Cup.
SKY in IPL 2024: Uncertainty in participation
Suryakumar seems to take longer time than expected. As he had undergone a Hernia operation, he can start his training only after the minimum declared time which is 8-9 weeks. Medical experts and fans hope that he might be fit during the IPL 2024, though the chances are very low.
Suryakumar is currently on a thin timeline as he must remain out of action during the Indian Premier League 2024 season. Reports indicated that he has a sports hernia and he must travel abroad to undergo surgery. Surya was ruled out for 2months due to his health and fitness issues.
Currently, Suryakumar is recovering at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He has to travel to Munich, Germany within 2-3 days to undergo the surgery and operation.
By this, it is clear that surely SKY in IPL 2024 would not be playing for Mumbai Indians and would miss a few initial games in the forthcoming season.
Suryakumar will have time to recover until the T20 World Cup starts in June 2024. His presence in the team is very important for India to have winning scopes in the T20 World Cup 2024.
However, we will witness Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returning in the India vs Afghanistan series 2024. These 2 players have been away from the t20 cricket for a long time, since the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Semi-Final loss against England. Fans and Cricket enthusiasts are excited about the positive vibes in their return.
Is Suryakumar Yadav’s Hernia issue very serious?
Usually, in most cases, it is the sportsperson who becomes the victim of Hernia. The term “Hernia” describes any kind of strain or tear in the muscle, ligament, tendon, or lower abdomen region.
At the same time, it doesn’t mean that you will have sports hernia only if you play sports but indeed it is more common in people playing sports.
Sports Hernia occurs when you play any sport vigorously. In sports, it usually occurs, when you perform some action, your legs remain still in one place but your pelvis gets twisted. During this period, the soft tissues under your lower abdomen area tend to tear and cause extreme strain to that region.
Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav had struggled with a severe ankle injury during the T20I Final cricket match of the series – Johannesburg vs SA in 2023.
Even KL Rahul, the wicketkeeper-batsman of India faced the sports hernia in mid-2022. Due to that issue, he suffered a lot and later underwent surgery in Germany in July 2023.
Now Suryakumar is the victim of a sports hernia and he is expected to return soon into the right form after his surgery.
Can Shami and SKY in IPL 2024 ensure to make a comeback?
In the case of Mohammed Shami, he will have to miss the test series against England. He must prove his perfect fitness in the NCA – National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Only after that BCCI will consider giving the clearance and allowing him to play in the upcoming matches.
Whereas Suryakumar Yadav will have to undergo a successful surgery in Germany. Although it might take around 8-9 weeks more after surgery to know the exact condition of his fitness.
Commonly, both Shami and SKY in IPL 2024 might miss a few matches, if the duo combination fails to pass the fitness test before the commencement of the 5-match test series against England.
