IPL 2024: LSG Appoints Sridharan Sriram As Assistant Coach

The Lucknow-based Indian Premier League IPL franchise, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has appointed the former Indian spinner, Sridharan Sriram as assistant coach for the IPL 2024. He will join the other coaching staff of the franchise consisting of a head coach, spin bowling coach, fielding coach, etc. Today, we will talk about Sridharan Sriram in detail. Sridharan Sriram coaching career

The former Indian spinner has been in the coaching career for a while now. In 2008, Sriram attained the renowned title of “Head Coach” at ECB Level 3. He worked with the Australia A side that toured India in 2015.

Sridharan Sriram associated with the Australian setup for a long time

Sridharan Sriram has played different roles in the Australian men’s cricket team over the years. He has been associated with the setup since 2015. The Indian spinner was named as a coaching consultant for the Australian team during the test series in Bangladesh in 2015.

Worked as a spin bowling coach as well

Sridharan Sriram worked as a spin bowling coach during Australia’s home series against India in 2018. He also worked with the Australian team during the Ashes 2019 in England, which ended with 2-2.

Sridharan in the IPL

Sridharan has already worked with the IPL franchise. He was the batting and spin bowling coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2019. Now, again he will be back in the Indian Premier League IPL as an assistant coach with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

He was officially confirmed as Bangladesh’s technical consultant for T20 Internationals on August 19, 2022.

Sridharan’s playing career

The Indian spinner is a recognized name in domestic cricket. He also played 8 ODIs from 2000 to 2004. In 8 ODIs, he scored 81 runs with the highest score of 57. With the ball, he took 3 wickets.

In 133 First Class games, he scored 9539 runs at an average of 53 and took 85 wickets. He also played 147 List-A games scored 4169 runs and took 115 wickets.

Sridharan played 15 T20s as well in which he scored 233 runs and took 4 wickets.

Sridharan Sriram Teams in Domestic Cricket

Sriram played for Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Assam, Goa, and Himachal Pradesh in domestic cricket over the years. He played his last season in 2011-12.

Sridharan Sriram Will Join LSG for IPL 2024

Sridharan Sriram will now join LSG as an assistant coach. The other members of the franchise consist of head coach Justin Langer, mentor Gautam Gambhir, assistant coach Vijay Dahiya, spin bowling coach Pravin Tambe, fast bowling coach Morne Morkel, and fielding coach Jonty Rhodes.

LSG’s record in the IPL

LSG joined the league in 2022 along with Gujarat Titans (GT). GT has done really well in both the seasons. They won the title in 2022 and reached the final in 2023.

LSG has also done well and managed to be in the top 4. In both seasons, they finished at No. 3 in the points table with 18 and 17 points respectively.

In 2022, they won 9 out of 14 games. And in 2023, they won 8 games out of 14. Their one game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been washed out due to rain.

Lost eliminators in both seasons

LSG lost an eliminator in both seasons. They lost an eliminator against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2022. In 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated LSG and they got out of the tournament.

 They will look to go a few steps further in the IPL 2024. LSG would want to win their first title in the next season. And for that, they have made some changes in the team as far as the support staff is concerned. They brought in Justin Langer and Sridharan Sriram to assist the team’s progress.
