IPL Auction 2024: Australia’s World Cup Winner Mitchell Starc broke the record for the most expensive player in IPL history. Kolkata Knight Riders paid the highest price in the auction’s 17-year history for the Australian Star, INR 24.75 Crore. Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders were in the bidding war. GT were adamant but forced to pull out after, KKR raised their bid to 24.75 Crore. Therefore, KKR won the bidding war and took Mitchell Starc back home.
Another Top Buy in IPL Auction 2024
In set 2 of IPL Auction 2024: Australia’s World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins first broke the record for the most expensive player in IPL history. Sunrisers Hyderabad paid the highest price for the Australian star, INR 20.50 crore. The Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, and Chennai Super Kings were also interested in the Australian captain, but SRH was able to secure his services.
Pat Cummins was listed in the all-rounder’s category in the highest bracket of 2 crore. MI and CSK were the first to back the World Cup-winning captain. However, RCB and SRH stepped in after CSK and MI backed out of the bidding war. The IPL 2024 auction arena erupted with applause when the bid reached 20 crore, as no other player had ever broken the 20-crore barrier in the Indian Premier League IPL.
Sam Curran, who was selected by Punjab Kings for INR 18.5 crore ahead of the 2023 auction, was the most expensive player in IPL auction history before Pat Cummins. Travis Head is another Australian World Cup star that SRH has brought in for IPL 2024. SRH used social media, and the number of signees they attracted astounded them. “Hey, Hyd, pat your backs. On X, SRH wrote, “We’re HEADING towards glory.”
