One of Team India’s medium pacers, Deepak Chahar is eyeing a comeback into the national team after being missed out of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. His career has become like a roller coaster ride. At one stage, he was an integral part of the Indian team. But regular injuries caused him a place in the Indian team white-ball setup. Today, we will talk about the things Deepak Chahar has said recently in an interview. So let’s start.
Chahar’s ability with the new ball makes him a valuable asset
At one stage, Deepak Chahar was looking perfect to replace someone like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, which is a like-for-like replacement. Both are quite similar in their abilities, try to pitch the new ball up and swing the ball both ways.
B Kumar has also developed very good skills to bowl at the back end of the inning, Deepak Chahar seems to miss that ability.
Although Chahar has improved a lot in this aspect while playing in the Indian Premier League IPL and for the Indian team, he still relies more on the new ball to take wickets.
Regular injuries restrained the career of Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar made his IPL debut way back in 2016. Since then, he went on to play 73 IPL games and took 72 wickets.
He also made his T20I and ODI debut in 2018. But he only played 24 T20Is and 13 ODIs till now.
Because of the regular injuries, he missed a lot of cricket in the last couple of years. He missed out of the IPL 2022 and ICC World Cup 2022 due to a back injury.
The pacer recovered from his back issues and it seems like he is ready to roar again. But he picked up another injury in the hamstring in IPL 2023. He missed out on the later part of the tournament.
Last game of Deepak Chahar for Team India
Deepak Chahar last played for Team India in December 2022 in an ODI against Bangladesh at Bangla National Stadium.
The pacer came back to professional cricket in the inaugural season of the Rajasthan Premier League (RPL) 2023. Now, he is looking to make a comeback on the national side as well.
Chahar on injuries in sports
A player shouldn’t get disappointed by injuries, Deepak Chahar said in an interview with PTI Bhasha. These things are out of the player’s control. At the moment, my priority is to remain fit and available for the team. When the opportunity arises, I will give my 100 percent for the team.”
Deepak Chahar also talks about the risk of back injuries in the fast bowler’s career.
“It can also be said that I was having a bad time in my case. I suffered a back injury last year, which is serious for a fast bowler, but now I am fully recovered. “I am very happy with my bowling at the moment.” – Chahar added.
