The ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has witnessed a few mind-blowing performances from veterans and rising talents. However, a few batters who performed exceptionally have fallen short of a few runs to register a well-deserved ton.
Moreover, it is even more shocking that for the first time in IPL history, three players, namely Prabhsimran Singh, Riyan Parag, and Ayush Mhatre, have fallen in their nineties within 24 hours.
Compared to the previous edition, where batters get dismissed in their 90s, the IPL 2025 has been the same in this way. Some of them remained unbeaten in their 90s that includes the names of Jos Buttler, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Quinton de Kock. While remaining others missed attaining a crucial milestone by attempting a false shot.
Let’s take a look at those eight cricketers and a summary of their innings to find out how they were struck in the 90s and the overall result of the match.
Big Nervous 90s of IPL 2025
1. Prabhsimran Singh (Punjab Kings): 91 Runs vs Lucknow Super Giants
Punjab Kings’ opening batter Prabhsimran Singh was set to a thunderous start and scored his fifty in just 30 balls against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday (May 04). However, his reverse sweep shot went wrong, which caused Nicholas Pooran to take a fine catch.
Unfortunately, the 24-year-old was dismissed after scoring 91 runs out of 48 balls (including 6 fours and 7 sixes) at a strike rate of 189.58. And he was nine runs short of reaching his second IPL century.
However, PBKS managed to post a total of 236/5 in 20 overs, riding on Prabhsimran’s fabulous knock, and won the match by 37 runs.
2. Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals): 95 Runs vs Kolkata Knight Riders
The stand-in captain of the Rajasthan Royals, Riyan Parag, tried his level best when his team succumbed to an early collapse against the Kolkata Knight Riders in a 207-run chase.
Even though RR lost half of its side at 71/5 before the 8th over, Parag kept on accelerating his innings and reached his half-century in just 27 balls.
Moreover, the right-handed batter smashed five consecutive sixes in a Moeen Ali’s single over and went on to register his career best score in IPL.
Riyan’s fabulous knock of 95 runs from just 45 balls (including 6 fours and 8 sixes) at a strike rate of 211.11 came to an end in the same over due to his mistimed shot that didn’t get the required elevation. As a result, RR lost the game by a slight margin of 1 run.
3. Ayush Mhatre (Chennai Super Kings): 94 vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Chennai Super Kings opening batter Ayush Mhatre maintained a 114-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja while chasing a 214-run target against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Saturday (May 03).
Despite scoring the first 10 runs off 9 deliveries, Ayush raced to his maiden IPL fifty in just 25 balls. However, in the next 23 balls, he managed to compile another 44 runs.
The right-handed batter’s knock concluded with a score of 94 runs from 48 balls (including 9 fours and 5 sixes) at a strike rate of 195.83, when he tried to smash Lungi Ngidi’s slower delivery. This allowed Krunal Pandya to take an easy catch that ended Mhatre’s opportunity to achieve a well-deserved century.
Finally, CSK lost the game by a slight margin of 2 runs at the M.Chinnaswamy stadium and once again continued to fail in a 180+ run chase.
4. Jos Buttler (Gujarat Titans): *97 Runs vs Delhi Capitals.
Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 97 runs from 54 balls (including 11 fours and 4 sixes) at a strike rate of 179.63 guided Gujarat Titans to chase a 204-run target against Delhi Capitals (DC).
After Gill’s early dismissal at 14-1 in 1.4 overs, Buttler arrived to bat and scored his half century in 32 balls. However, with 10 runs required off the last over, the English batter was off-strike, which caused Raul Tewatia to score the winning runs by smashing a six and a four.
Although Buttler fell short of just 3 runs to register his 8th IPL century, GT achieved a dominating 7-wicket victory.
5. Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans): 90 vs Kolkata Knight Riders
Gujarat Titans posted a challenging total of 198/3 in 20 overs, which includes Shubman Gill’s major contribution of 90 runs from 55 balls (including 10 fours and 3 sixes) at a strike rate of 163.64.
The GT captain scored his fifty in 34 balls and accumulated another 40 runs in just 25 balls. However, Gill’s mistimed shot against Vaibhav Arora’s low full toss delivery caused Rinku Singh to take a stunning diving catch.
Although the right-handed batter missed out on his 5th IPL century by 10 runs, GT won the match by 39 runs.
6. KL Rahul (Delhi Capitals): *93 vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru
KL Rahul’s unbeaten 93-run knock from just 53 balls (including 7 fours and 6 sixes) led Delhi Capitals from the front in a 164-run chase.
Rahul, who reached his fifty in 37 balls, scored another 43 runs in just 16 balls and hammered 22 runs off the 15th over bowled by Josh Hazlewood. Even though the 33-year-old finished the game in style by smashing a six against Yash Dayal in the 18th over, he was still 7 runs behind achieving his 5th IPL century.
The right-handed batter batted at a strike rate of 175.47, which resulted in the Capitals chasing the required target by a 6-wicket victory and 13 balls to spare.
7. Quinton de Kock (Kolkata Knight Riders): *97 vs Rajasthan Royals
Chasing a mediocre target of 152, Quinton de Kock’s unbeaten 97 runs from 61 balls (including 8 fours and 2 sixes) at a strike rate of 159.02, single-handedly guided Kolkata Knight Riders to a 7-wicket victory against Rajasthan Royals.
The South African batter made the best use of the 18th over bowled by Jofra Archer by smashing 2 fours and six, but fell three runs short of attaining his 3rd IPL century as RR accomplished the required target with 15 balls to spare. Suppose Archer hadn’t bowled two wides in that over, then De Kock could have easily attained his milestone.
8. Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings): *97 vs Gujarat Titans
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 97-run knock from 42 balls (including 5 fours and 9 sixes) against Gujarat Titans that propelled his team to post a 200+ total.
Despite batting at a strike rate of 230.95, he fell three runs short of achieving his maiden IPL century. This was because the right-handed batter was off strike that allowed Shashank Singh to score 23 runs off last over bowled by Arshdeep Singh, that bolstered PBKS total to 243/5 in 20 overs. Even though Iyer didn’t get a well-deserved ton, but played one of the highest quality innings that helped his team secure an 11-run victory.
