Today, we will talk about those 3 players in TNPL 2023 whom Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might target for the IPL 2024.
New talent every year from TNPL
Every year, we saw some new talent in Tamil Nadu Premier League. So many good players performed well in the tournament and get the opportunity at the next level.
Also, every year, the IPL franchises scouts new players from all around the country and gave them an opportunity to showcase their talent. Some of the TNPL players, because their roots are from Chennai, get the opportunity to be seen by the CSK scout hunt. And they got selected in the CSK setup every year in the Indian Premier League.
This time as well, CSK will look to identify some new talent for the IPL 2024. We will now see who might be the top 3 players whom CSK will target for IPL 2024.
Top 3 players in TNPL 2023 CSK will target for IPL 2024
(1) Baba Aparajith
The 28-year-old has been doing well in domestic cricket for so many years. He did well for Tamil Nadu in all the domestic tournaments like Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare, etc.
Right now, he is playing for Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) in TNPL 2023. Till now, he is at No. 2 in the highest run-getter, scoring 240 runs in 5 games with an average of 60 and a strike rate of 148.15. He also took 4 wickets in TNPL 2023 so far.
In 2022 also, Aparajith scored 396 runs in nine matches at a spell-bounding average of 56.57 and a strike rate of 144.52. Baba Aparajith will play a perfect role in the middle order for CSK. Especially after the retirement of A Rayudu, CSK might see Baba as Rayudu’s replacement in IPL 2024.
Because of his ability to anchor inning and pace the inning, he will be crucial for any team. He can also bowl some off-spin as well and will be another bowling option for the teams as well. CSK might target him in the IPL 2024 auction. Aparajith was also a part of CSK’s set up from 2013 to 2015. Rising Pune Super Giants also bought him in 2016-17, but he didn’t get the opportunity to play.
(2) Gurjapneet Singh
The left-arm pacer used to play for Dindigul Dragons (DD) in TNPL. In TNPL 2023, he is playing for Madurai Panthers. Till now, in 3 games, he took 6 wickets with an average of 10.50. He also gave only 63 runs in the 10.4 overs he bowled so far in the tournament.
Because of the injury concerns to the CSK fast bowlers (D Chahar and M Kumar), the franchise might target Gurjapnnet Singh in the IPL 2024 auction.
Also, CSK relies more on its spinners. They play half of their games in CSK, where spinners come more into play. If they need an extra pacer outside of their home games, they might see Gurjapneet Singh as an option.
He didn’t play in TNPL 2022. In TNPL 2021, he took 7 wickets in 7 games with the best figures of 3 for 22. Let’s see if he gets a chance in IPL 2024. If he continues to do well, he will definitely get a chance in IPL.
(3) Abhishek Tanwar
CSK will consider Abhishek Tanwar as another fast bowling option in IPL 2024. He did well in the last couple of TNPL seasons. Tanwar made his Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) in 2015-16.
Abhishek was the highest wicket-taker in TNPL a year ago. He got 17 wickets in 9 games with an average of 14.11. His economy is quite good as well; being 7.09.
In TNPL 2023 so far, he has taken 6 wickets in 4 games with an average of 16 and only gave 84 runs in 96 balls he bowled. He is a complete T20 bowler and specialized in this format. Abhishek can play the same role of Deepak Chahar, bowling in the powerplay and taking wickets upfront.
He is a very good ball striker and has a strike rate of 155.80. He could bring balance to the team as a bowling all-rounder. CSK might go for him in the IPL 2024 auction.
