After that 2nd wicket partnership, SL continues to lose wickets at regular intervals. Kusal Mendis scored 59 runs off 82 balls, and Kamindu Mendis’ few shots here and there allowed Sri Lanka to finish with 248 in the first inning.
Rishabh Pant missed a simple chance in keeping
During the first inning, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant missed a simple stumping chance in the penultimate over. A new batter Maheesh Theekshana decided to run down the track to Kuldeep Yadav on the last ball of the 49th over. Theekshana missed the shot and Rishabh Pant took the bails off.
Theekshana almost left the field, knowing that he was out. But, after watching a replay, Rishabh Pant got to know that he took a little more time to take off the bails. The time allows Theekshana to come back in the crease and he remains not out in the end.
Although it didn’t cost Team India too much as the batter only managed to score 3 runs in 4 balls he faced, Rishabh Pant has to be aware of the situation. He made a mess of the opportunity and it’s a schoolboy error that Pant has made.
Indian batters again look clueless against Sri Lankan spinners
When coming out to bat a target of 249, they lost both of their openers in the first 8 overs. Rishabh Pant got out cheaply in the powerplay, trying to sneak a single to Maheesh Theekshana in the 10th over.

Rishabh Pant will look to rectify himself going forward
Rishabh Pant has been in the Indian cricket setup for a while now. When he came new into the scene, everyone believed in his batting. It’s his wicketkeeping that was questioned over that period. But he has improved a lot as a wicketkeeper and we can see in his game.
At one stage, Pant wasn’t considered a wicketkeeper in the tests in India, citing difficulties in keeping wickets on turning pitches. W Saha was considered as a first-choice wicketkeeper in tests at home. But Rishabh Pant has done well on that front as well.
