Root back in ODIs, Stokes continues to recover
Joe Root, England’s most experienced batter is back in the ODI squad. He last played an ODI for England in the last league stage match in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. With Root coming back, their batting will have the stability as he is someone who can hold one end and score runs consistently at a good pace. Other batters like Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Phil Salt, etc have to bat around him.
Ben Stokes hasn’t been considered for the selection as he continues to recover from a left hamstring injury. He picked up an injury during the 3rd test against New Zealand (NZ) earlier this month. This is a big blow for England as Stokes is someone who gives the right balance to the side. His batting and bowling along with his leadership experience could be vital for the England team.
England’s bowling has some firepower in the squad
As far as England’s bowling is concerned, they have some firepower in the pace attack. The bowlers like Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Saqib Mahmood, and Mark Wood are all the ones who can consistently bowl at 140+ kmph. In the spin department, they have an experienced leg-spinner Adil Rashid with Liam Livingstone in the mix. The players like Joe Root and Jacob Bethell can also roll their arms over if Buttler needs some more spin options.
The squad is a mix of experienced players and some young talented players. Also, the England team’s approach in the batting is there to see for everyone. They can go hard at the opposition bowlers right from the word go. Their intent is always positive and as we said earlier, their bowling attack has the variety.
