The Asia Cup 2023 has been done and dusted with Team India claiming their 8th title in the tournament. They won the title by beating Sri Lanka in the final. Throughout the tournament, we saw some of the brilliant performances with both the bat and the ball from different players across the teams. And today, we will pick the best XI of the Asia Cup 2023, considering all the performances in the tournament.
NOTE: We will only consider players’ performances at a particular role in their respective teams. For example, we won’t pick a top-order batter to bat in the middle order. It doesn’t make sense and that player’s utility will not be fully unleashed.
Also, considering the “NOTE” mentioned above, we will tell which players miss out on the squad.
Asia Cup 2023 Best Playing XI
(1) Shubman Gill
Gill has been in superb form in the last year or so. He has been scoring runs at the top consistently at the top.
In the Asia Cup 2023 as well, he became the highest run scorer with 302 runs in 6 games. He averages 75.50 and has a strike rate of 93.50 in the tournament. The youngster will open the inning in our best XI of the Asia Cup 2023.
(2) Rohit Sharma (c)
We didn’t look at the other option than Rohit Sharma. He is one of the best white ball openers not just in Asia, but around the world. We all know what he can do on his day. He has the ability to score big runs and play long innings.
In the Asia Cup 2023, he scored 194 runs in 5 innings with an average of 48.50 and an outstanding strike rate of almost 108. He will partner Shubman Gill in our best XI. Rohit will also lead this side.
Missed out:-
There are no players from the other teams who have performed well as openers. The only name that came to our mind is Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who opened the inning in a few games. He scored a hundred as an opener against Afghanistan. But he is a make-shift opener and we picked him for an all-rounder slot in our XI.
(3) Kusal Mendis (wk)
Mendis had a very good Asia Cup. He becomes the 2nd highest run scorer with 270 runs at an average of 45 in 6 games. He is a solid batsman at the top order and can play long innings as well.
Mendis will keep the wickets as well in our best XI of the Asia Cup 2023.
Missed out:-
Virat Kohli is the one who misses out on the squad for this position. He scored a brilliant hundred against Pakistan in the Super 4s. But he got out cheaply against Pakistan (in Group Stages) and Sri Lanka (in Super 4s). And he didn’t get the opportunity to bat in 3 games.
(4) Sadeera Samarawickrama
Sadeera Samarawickrama has played very well at No. 4 throughout the Asia Cup 2023. He scored 2 fifties with the highest score of 93 in the tournament. The right-hander will be our No. 4 in the Asia Cup 2023’s best XI.
(5) Shakib al Hasan
The experienced Shakin al Hasan will play an important role with both bat and ball in the team. He is a genuine wicket-taker who doesn’t hesitate to toss the ball up. Especially with the kind of pitches we saw in the Asia Cup 2023, he becomes more lethal.
And with the bat, he can control the inning in the middle overs.
(6) Hardik Pandya
The Indian all-rounder only played 2 innings in the tournament. And one of them was an outstanding 87 against Pakistan under pressure when India was in trouble. Pandya could play that difficult role of a finisher and can also build innings if needed. With the ball, he is magnificent and took 6 wickets in the Asia Cup 2023.
(7) Mehidy Hasan Miraz
Miraz’s utility is there to see for everyone. He can bat anywhere from 1 to 7 and can bowl a full quota of 10 overs as well. He will be in our team for the Asia Cup 2023.
(8) Dunith Wellalage
A revelation in the tournament. Another player who can do equally well with both bat and ball. He gives the right balance to the team.
(9) Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep has been bowling well and batters find it difficult to read him off the hand. He is the player of the tournament and will be in our best XI as well.
(10) Mohammad Siraj
Siraj’s ability to pick wickets with the new ball helps the team to put the opposition under pressure early. He is equally good in the death overs as well in the last couple of years.
(11) Matheesha Pathirana
Pathirana can be dangerous at the later stage of the opposition’s inning. He has the ability to stop the run flow at the back end of the inning. He was also a leading wicket-taker in the Asia Cup 2023.
So this is the best XI of the Asia Cup 2023 picked by us. Thank you for reading. Keep following us for the latest updates.
